I was just looking at my diet calendar to see how my nutritional info compares to when I was doing my own diet, before Medifast. The fat grams per day stayed about the same, but the protein is much higher and the carbs are much lower. I guess that means that I'm definitely following the low carb thing pretty well. Most days I'm between 70-90 carbs, which is pretty good!

I have been debating whether or not to continue on Medifast since I think I could make some of my own foods, which would taste better and cost less. I could still follow their guidelines and I should lose weight about the same way. The drawbacks to this would be that the forums for medifast wouldn't really be relevant anymore, since I wouldn't be using the products, so the support would go way down. Not to mention that I would be giving up my health coach. I don't doubt that I could still lose the weight on my own... I just dont know if it would be more or less effective if I did it myself. I was reading a low carb cookbook and it had some great ideas for low carb recipes... so great that I bought a bunch of ingredients so I could try things out. The only problem is that I cant make most of the stuff and stay on Medifast since it wouldn't necessarily be part of the whole "lean and green" meal that I get each day. I was thinking of maybe replacing one Medifast meal per day with a comparable item that I make myself... maybe thats a good start. There are still some Medifast items that I'd like to try, and others that I think I like either for convenience or flavor.

Its not really a bad thing to experiment with my own recipes and altering the diet, right? Worst case scenario is that it stalls progress and I go back to following it 100%. I guess that pretty much answers my own question. :)
