Anyone else tired of seeing all this CANDY in the grocery stores? I just went grocery shopping this afternoon and, while I've seen it before, I really took notice of just how much candy is out there - it's crazy! In my store, it's at the entrance, on the way to the checkout, and bulk-stacked in multiple other areas of the store. Even if you typically shop the outer ring, you'll still get bombarded with a ton of the stuff all the way around that outer ring.

I realized that this has been one l-o-n-g "season" of candy, as well. When did it start? Halloween. When the Halloween candy was taken off the shelves, the Christmas candy took its place. Then, when that left, it was Valentine's Day candy which was eventually replaced by Easter candy.

Take something like Hershey's Kisses. They have wrappers in gold, orange, and black that can actually get them to the shelves as soon as "fall" begins. Change those wrappers to red, green, and silver and you've got the Christmas Kisses. Drop the green so you just have red and silver and the Kisses are all ready for Valentine's Day. Then, drop the red, keep the silver and add pastel colored foils and now they're set for Easter. It's a racket, I tell ya'!!! And it just keeps all that candy right in front of us with the subtle message that it's just not any kind of holiday without a whole bunch of candy. WRONG!

Oh ya, candy! You can't even buy a single serving pack of m&m's anymore! Everything is supersized. I really try NOT to go to the grocery store. Almost went today, but the less I go, the better and I do the outside isles, but then you have the HoHOs on the endcaps, and umm everything else:-) You made it out yes?

Made it out in fine shape with lots of good food. After nearly 3 years doing low carb, this gets easier all the time, but it truly IS amazing just how much of this stuff is out there....and....unfortunately, most will be bought and consumed by somebody. :(

OH I went into a Whole Foods for the first time in years and honestly, I got out without any temptation, (except the amazingly over priced meat section!) Wish there were more stores like that that had normal prices.

I hear ya - our local Belk has Godiva at every counter - and its a Dept store! Even my DOCTOR has 'chocolate ' posters by the weigh in scale (and not with a red 'no' circle thru it. ) I just finished putting Easter baskets together and fortunately my goal jeans are folded on the same shelf in the store room and they reminded me to STEP AWAY FROM THE PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE EGGS!!!!!

Candy everywhere!! I wish we had a Whole Foods up here (I miss that from Georgia!!). We have a Yoke's and the candy is a little more contained but still there.

Oh you have so hit on one of my pet peeves! Other countries do NOT celebrate every holiday with bags of candy! And I really don't think the sugar fest starts at Halloween-We have green wrapped stuff for St. Patrick's Day, we've got Easter/Spring stuff, then there's 4th of July stuff, then "back to school" where they sell "lunchbox" supplies. Yup, bags of candy stacked in and around all the school supplies, then it's autumn/Halloween again. It's not just candy either-cookies, chips and other kinds of crap food for "your holiday celebration". I'm thinking maybe we need to do a bit less celebrating with junk food, to be honest! Celebrations and the treats involved really aren't celebrations and treats if they're year round.

Oh, and let's not forget all the sports celebrations! Football (super bowl) and Basketball (um...best of 7? not sure, but I know it's usually a party excuse as well). We're SHOUTED AT to have a big party with lots of greasy, fatty food, where we sit and watch athletes, who don't eat this kind of crap, and certainly not this quantity, perform on TV.
