sjcoray's Journal, 19 February 2013

Yesterday's eating was half decent - half not. Oh well. Today will be much better. I have actually gotten sleep, and I'm back to my regularly scheduled programming.

I am finding though a much stronger connection to what I've eaten and how my workout goes than what I've felt in the past. So, because of that, last night's workout wasn't great. At least, the running part of it. The lifting went fine. But I didn't totally give up. The running hurt (someday soon I will buy new shoes) so that only lasted about half the time, but I finished on the elliptical to try to get a little more cardio.

Tonight it will be all elliptical (42 min maybe) plus abs. Up to 100 today - need to find some varieties that I like to keep me interested. I know (I believe?) the abs are all interconnected, but it irks me to only feel soreness at the top of the set, so think I need to try to add some leg lifts or something to "feel" it more in the lower half.

I've been avoiding weighing in - but I guess it's about that time. Soon-ish :)

Hi there. Sounds like tough workout. What are you and your sis competing in in April. Forgive me for tuning in late. What does it mean to be up to 100? I need new shoes too. What are you going to buy? I lift in converse, cycle in s-works (or specialized or pearl Izumi) and walk/run in a crummy pair of New Balance. Need some creative ideas.

Any triathlon we had considered to do in April seems to have gone by the wayside when she broke up with her then-bicycling boyfriend :) Which is fine, I haven't been on my bike in ages. I am hoping to be ready for the Bolder Boulder (10k) over Memorial Day weekend again. So that's my main goal for the time being. 100 means 100 abs - of any variety, full sit ups, half crunches, obliques, leg up crunches, leg lifts, etc. I haven't figured out how to quantify a plank (1 second = 1 ab?) so I haven't been doing those yet, though I think it would be smart to do so. For the longest time I wore Brooks Adrenaline - amazing shoes - then I read "Born to Run" and tried to wear their barefoot option, the Pure Cadence, but I need to go back to the Adrenaline, I have intermittant cramps and shin splints with the new shoes (even though I love the color). I've been in Brooks now for several years - maybe even close to 10, and I love them. They are my full workout shoes, and my walking my dog shoes and my feet are tired from flip-flop shoes, which probably means I wear them too much, I just haven't been able to justify buying multiple pairs at the same time yet. I found my shoes originally by going to a running store - they recorded me running on a treadmill and based on how much I roll my feet to the outside, recommended this shoe (I think it's the most popular on the market). It was a great experience.

Is a bicycling bf different than a regular bf (or was it just that he cycled too)? LOL. The tri would have been nice. Don't like the barefoot options, but I'll check out the Brooks. Thanks for the info. Definitely need a good workout shoe. You gave me an idea. Maybe I'll go to JackRabbit, a running store in the NYC, and see what they suggest. They put you on a treadmill and fit you specifically. Good thoughts, sjcoray, thanks! Contemplating changing my bike pedals because of my knee issues (actually that's the chiro's idea, not mine). I'm pretty happy with my SPD-SLs (they're a lot like LOOK), but I'm thinking about speedplay. What pedal do you ride? Quantify the plank? Never heard of that. I just do them. For me, they feel like cool down after a hard workout. Wow, the 100 abs sounds hard but useful. Very nice.

Ahhh yeah - plank as a cool down..not so much :P More like I have to gear up for it. And she didn't cycle (or really run for that matter, though she used to swim) - but my sister tends to grasp the hobbies of the men she dates and picks them up. I've found I'm just not a huge fan of the bike. Probably would be if I did it more (like running more makes me like it more) but trying to/working on runnings keeps me challenged enough. I have no idea what kind of pedals I have :P Uh. I ride a Le Monde (when I ride..).
