I'm feeling a bit cranky about my standard Marie's Chunky Blue Cheese dressing. I have loved and eaten it for decades without ever registering that the #1 ingredient is soybean oil. Somehow I thought it was buttermilk-based. Kristen at Food Renegade periodically does label reading exercises and she did a
salad dressing recently which made me wonder. The Marie's website says "expeller pressed soybean oil" but the bottle just says "soybean oil" so it isn't as "leap off the label" I guess.
And even if it had been buttermilk-based, the recent Food Renegade article
How to Make Buttermilk showed a picture of a commercial buttermilk label and it is just crazy.
I had an avocado with pesto instead of salad dressing for breakfast and it was fine. But I eat a lot of salads and I really don't want to have to get into making my own dressings! Gah. This eating cleanly can be a real pain.
