Sherota's Journal, 21 January 2013

This is my first day on the Alternate Day Diet. At first I felt I needed to think about carbs. Just coming down off of Atkins. What I really like about Atkins was the dramatic change in my health markers. My weight, cholesterol, blood pressure etc. all improved dramatically. That was my 3rd time trying Atkins. The weight did not fall off as fast as the last time I tried it but the loss of inches was pretty consistent even on weeks when my weight fluctuated up. Then I abandoned ship but this time I did something different I did not stop recording my activity nor what I ate on a daily basis. By wathching my arrows the red up ones I knew I was going to gain weight. By continuing to keep track I can now go back and review the things that worked and understand better what patterns I need to avoid in the future. One thing I learned is why processed snacks make you gain weight. It's not necessarily the volume but the number of calories I was consuming for the volume. Two small 1" cookies were 120 calories but the problem was that instead of eating just two I'd eat 6-8 cookies and still not be satisfied 360-480 calories later. For the two little cookies I could have a half cup of greek yogurt, 1/2 c blueberries, 8 small strawberries, and one Tbsp wheat germ and be more satisfied than with the two cookies that have less nutrition. It really helps me to understand the concept in the books "Eat this not That". My new measurements are as follows bust: 39 5/8 waist: 35 7/8 and my hips: 38 3/4. I can still fit my smaller clothes but they are a little more snug.
I want to try the Alternate Day Diet because it claims to provide alot of the same benefits as Atkins. It will give me more choices on my up days. I do not have to avoid certain vegetables that I love such as white potatoes, sweet potatoes, winter squash and certain fruits. I'm going to try this and see how it goes. My goal is to implement the two plans especially if this works for me. For times when I want more volume I will follow Atkins counting carbs and for when I want more variety I'll do the Alternate Day Diet counting calories.
I'll record my results for all to see.
Entry#2
It says on my profile that I'm ganing 9.8lbs per week. Not true. when I changed yesterday It recorded it as my first weigh in. When I weighed in today my normal day it recorded it as an average of 9.8lbs per week.
