My first day of dieting didn't go so well with the food, I had in n-out-burger, but today I did a lot better. I even baked Christmas cookies and only had a couple instead of maybe ten like I normally would. I'm trying to be more active too. With walking and exercising at home. Also going out with the kids more to the park. I think these changes will make a big difference in the long run.

There are some things that you can do to help yourself stay away from foods that you don't want to eat. Take an inventory of what foods are your weaknesses. We all have our favorites that we can't seem to control ourselves around--mine is sugar. As soon as you decide what you trigger foods are then stay away from them as if they were poison. Don't bring them into your home. If they are fast foods, then put your purse in your trunk so you have to get out of the car in order to use the drive through. Do whatever you must to stay away from them. If this makes you feel too deprived, then plan a time when it is OK for you to eat these foods. Most people choose one day a week. It's easier for me to stay away from them completely, but some find it easier to plan an indulgence day. You know yourself the best. Around holidays, I just walk away from the table where all the food is and go into a different room. If you are cooking, chew some sugar free peppermint gum while your cooking. You won't want to taste anything while your cooking because the gum will distort the taste of everything. There are a lot of others on this site that have a bunch of ideas on how to stay on track. Keep it up--you can do it!!

I second the gum chewing. It has saved my butt many times. :) it just takes time and determination!

The gum is a great idea! I do need to be a little more determined and disciplined if I want this to work. Thanks :)
