phibs's Journal, 14 December 2012

Woohoo! I forgot to declare it but one of my mini goals was to reach under 12 stone (168 lbs) before going home for christmas. So I was exited to see I'd broken through to the 160s the other day, but I'm even more exited to see the scale say 11 stone 13.8 pounds today! Even though online I get used to abandoning our old stone system, its still the way of weighing myself that has the most powerful connotations for me and now I can say to myself that I've dropped a stone!

It's at about this point in previous diets that the weight loss has become a bit noticeable and people have commented/complimented me etc. However, in the past I was happy to settle for this - although I meant to carry on, I'd become lax, rest on my laurels and start snacking more and tracking less. Not this time! This is only half way to my overall weight loss goal on here (which in itself is only a starting point) so I am going to keep up the momentum. And if I do slip up over the next couple of temptation filled weeks I won't beat myself up about it, but I won't use it as an excuse to abandon the diet completely either. I'll keep using my little notebook to record everything, even when I'm being bad, and I'll try to decide in advance how and when I'll allow myself to 'cheat' and to to what extent. Everything in moderation!

Great work! I'm trying to do the same thing over the holidays. Decide in advance when I will be allowed to "cheat". and I'm still going to record everything. except christmas day. Hopefully it won't hurt me to much. My goal was to lose 20 lbs by Christmas, and I'm hoping I'll make it. I only weigh myself Sunday's so 2 days and I'll know if I'm still on track to do just that. Congratulations and keep up the good work.

You're doing awesome, Phibs! I totally don't understand the stone system and wish I did. I also wish I understood Euros, pounds, pence, shillings and all that stuff. I also don't understand or use the metric system very well. How great that you lost a stone. It sounds really impressive. Like you have literally dropped a huge chunk of solid rock off of your body. You are doing wonderful and your attitude is fantastic!

Thanks musiquette and kmartdollie! Haha yes a lot of us brits don't understand the stone system very well either, I always think its 12 lb in a stone but its actually 14lb. Luckily we don't have to worry about shillings any more! It definitely does sound good to say you're dropped a stone, nice and dramatic! Sadly I have inched up back over the 12 stone mark today but I suspected that might happen happen since it had dropped off unnaturally quickly - I still count it as a victory to have seen 11 stone something on the scales! Thanks again :)
