Gawd low carb evangelists are a pain. At least when someone comes to your door spouting their religion at you you have the option of shutting the door if they won't go away.

I never understood the low carb diet or the difference between good carbs and bad carbs for that matter. I mean could understand a low calorie diet, but carbs are carbs to me... I wanted to type crab instead of carb the whole time...

Nothing to understand. It's all based on some very bad science. It works, but not because of the reason most low carbers _think_ it works.

I regard fat protein and carbs like the pick n mix at woolworths (yep Im that old) sometimes you have more of one than the other and other days the other way round but it should all balance out in the end. I always presumed they were there for a reason and we were able to eat ok before the scientist's nutitionists and fadders raised their heads :)

My diet has been effectively lower carb, simply because carbs are generally easier to swap out for other stuff that tastes good and fills the same role on the plate, that I like enough to not make me question it (cauliflower rice, mashed carrot and root veg, roasted butternut, etc etc)...

The only real option for low calorie meat replacement is quorn. And I've tried and tried, but I just hate the stuff.

They sell a soya mince at sainsburys. Its a dry mix which you add water to. I find its better at soaking up the flavours especially in chilli. Tesco vegetarian range is getting better i love the veg Mexican burgers.
