I am almost half way to my goal weight (at least my original goal weight- we'll see if I am done when I get there). I am feeling much stronger and definitely healthier. My endurance has improved a ton. GF is happy that we are finally eating the way she prefers to eat, (she has always been fit and healthy.) She is also glad that I finally came around to what she has gently been telling me for the last 4 years :)
Just the other day I went to my karate class and taught a class, got on the elliptical for 15 mins. afterward, when I came home she told me she was going for a walk(usually 2 miles) and I asked her if she wanted company -the old me would have said "see you later, and popped on over to Sonic for a hot fudge sundae. I love the amount of energy I have now- and I sleep like a baby!!! There has been no starving, no pills, no fads, no miracle exercise equipment...Just healthy foods in moderate amounts, and exercise (something that I previously avoided unless it was karate). I have not deprived my self of some of the things I truly love that are "BAD" like cheesecake, and chocolate pudding, hot fudge sundaes and the like, I have learned that there is a place in a healthy diet for these things as well, just in moderation. It is very true you have to burn more than you eat to lose weight. Simple math. Some say that eating healthy is expensive, and if you are only looking at the grocery bill then it might be cheaper to eat the processed foods, but when you look at increased healthcare costs due to side affects of being unhealthy/over weight(i.e. heart disease, High BP,bad knees, annkles and feet etc.) I think in the long run eating healthy is much cheaper.

I also think just cooking for yourself is cheaper than getting take out. You're doing so great and you've come to all the same conclusions I have, which means CLEARLY you are very wise and correct, lol. I could have written this journal entry myself :) Nice work, aren't the benefits just phenomenal? I feel like an idiot for avoiding this for so long! But I also understand I needed to mature enough to really comprehend it.

Its funny about the avoidance. I ask myself now why I avoided my weight issue for so long, and the only answer I can come to at this point is that deep down inside I knew what I had to do, but didn't want to do the work. At that time I thought I would have to give up everything I loved... How wrong I was. This whole journey began mostly out of vanity and evolved into a quest for good health. The more I read and learned the more I became concerned about the health issues. Don't get me wrong, the health issues were always a concern but not the first priority. As I have changed my lifestyle, so too have my views on health and fitness as they pertain to me. The only thing I am sorry about is that I didn't pay attention sooner to GF's gentle hints that exercising and eating healthy was the path I needed to be on. I guess I just had to come to it in my own time. I gave up smoking for the health reasons, moved to weight loss for vanity and ended up viewing weight loss as a health issue- I have come full circle and finally feel good about me. (I am still working on that beautiful sleek bod, but it is a lot more fun now!)
