the amount of weight i have to lose seems daunting at the moment...

Work on 5 pounds at a time and reward yourself with nonfood items for each small goal you reach. You can do this!

The last post is right. Break it down into managable goals don't overwhelm yourself with the big picture. Slow and steady wins the race. You can do it! Look forward to seeing your sucesses.
