artistgrl's Journal, 01 April 2008

So, there I was, thinking I was being healthy. It's time for lunch. I decide to get a salad from Quizno's. After the order was placed, I looked at the website to try and get an idea of how many points I was about to eat. Who knew a salad from quizno's would have 1100 calories??? and some astronomical amount of fat...maybe 70 grams??? anyways, when I worked out the points, it was over 27 points for just a salad!!! I picked out the bacon and cheese, and only used about a quarter of the dressing, so I think I made the best out of a bad situation.

I have to make sure I bring my lunch tomorrow, so nothing like this happens again!

LOL... you know you are on a diet when you ask for the nutritional information pamphlet and order from it, rather than the actual menu. One of my favourite's is swiss Chalet. I have a 1/4 chicken dinner white with a greek salad with a multigrain roll which works out to 13 pts. Sub in a garden salad for the greek (-3 pts), skip the roll (-3 pts) and take the skin off the chicken (-1 or 2, I think) - and it isn't too bad. Thanks for sharing about Quizno's - not my favourite place, but definately on my list of to avoids. 1100 calories... where did they get them all...

Salads. The final frontier. These are the voyages of the restaurant enterprise. Their continuing mission is to seek out new ways to hide calories and make them look healthy. To boldly go where no health conscious person has been before (unless they were tricked!!). OH the hidden dangers of restaurant food. Good job disarming the "bomb" of calories!

I can't believe that a salad could have that much fat and calories in it!!! It just goes to show you, anything that is mass produced is bad for you, end of story. You have to do all your cooking yourself - thats the only way to really know what is going in your mouth! I do wonder though how much of the fat and calories came simply from the dressing...

It sure teaches the importance of reading labels! Thanks for the info.

Oh boy, that's scary. You wouldn't have thought that something as healthy looking as a salad could be so high in calories!! I shall remember that next time I go out for a meal and make sure I ask what they've put in it.

I know I hate when you go to places and you think you're doing so well and then get home to check the nutrition info and it's way worse that you thought! Oh well at least it's a new day.
