kingkeld's Journal, 10 September 2012

Good morning, FatSecret!

It's been a few days - I apologize!

I've been sort of a scatterbrain the last few days, just getting by. I've been wanting to write a proper journal, but I haven't really had the head for it.

I think I'm able to write today tough, and I want to keep this journal flowing, whether I have stuff to write about or not. And, of coruse, it usually turns out that I have plenty on my mind once I get going. :)

It's been a great weekend. We've had a few quiet days, but they've been really nice.

Wife took off from work Thursday and Friday, and just rested. I have more or less done the same, though still working. Not too many things and activities have happened, other than the ordinary stuff - hanging at home, waching movies, relaxing.

Yesterday, though, I went to rehearse with Burnin' Live. I think the name has settled with the band, and that's the name we're gonna go with.

We had our second singer trial yesterday. This time, he could better hear himself and it made quite a difference. This time around, he was more in touch with the tunes, but we can easily hear (and agree with him) that he needs quite some work. He's brand new at this game, so there is a lot for him to learn.

Still, it's not impossible, and being that it's REALLY hard to find even a remotely good singer out there in our little town, we're gonna try this out and see where it takes us.

We're definitely not ready for me to post samples, but I think we're moving along.

We played several songs, kind of scattered, and it all went reasonably well, and MUCH better than first time around. I remember the first MANY times we practiced with our Black Peanut singer, and I was really concerned for us. He was often out of key and had no cultural background in the music we're playing. Still, after about a year he's turned into quite the entertainer with very few missed notes. I hope this will end up the same. If not, we'll have to deal with it further down the road.

My weight? Honestly, I have no idea. I haven't weighed in for days. I've had days where I did great, even days where I was very low on calories and I've had days where I just didn't even try.

I think it's about status quo today. I'll weigh in tomorrow.

Wife and I are both determined to generally do a little better. Wife says she feels herself getting a little heavier (something with chips and soda, I think she said), and I am bothered that I don't lose anything. I don't think my excess weight can keep being fluids. I see my cheeks filling out a little more than normal, and I do NOT like to see that. So here we go.

It's a bad day to start. Work has breakfast served, celebrating that we reached some really cool goals. Boss man is happy! Still, I have prepared by only eating my two eggs for breakfast, no rye bread, no ham. This way I have a little wiggle room for 2nd breakfast.

Also, we have planned meatless spaghetti tonight, and this is pretty low on calories, and that'll help me reach my goals today.

I set my calorie intake to 2000 per day, and I will not be doing Indulgence Day right now. I don't think I need it - it seems to me that if I do I will end up digging into the sugar, and I don't want that. I want to do good, and get the sugar monkey off my back.

Today is my 2nd time teaching weight loss. It's gonna be interesting to see how everyone has been doing this last week. They know they can contact me if they have questions, and I haven't heard anything from anyone. I hope this is good news.

Today I'm gonna talk to them about the whole "Alcohol and weigh loss" thing, the question I posted in the community here. It seems that many of them has been on a program that would tell them that alcohol can stop your weight loss up to a week! I called bull immediately, and I will stick to that claim. As long as you have your calorie intakt under control, I see absolutely no reason to not enjoy alcohol, unless you LOSE the control.

Of course, it's never a good idea to DRINK your calories. Alcohol, beer and sodas will not fill you up.

I'm excited to teach again. I had so much fun last time.

I think the main challenge today will be to get THEM talking. Last time, I was Keld The Teacher, but I will try today to more sit in with the group and see if we together can see more eye to eye. I think that's a wise way to do this, make it more of a support group with "a leader".

I will let you know how things went in tomorrow's journal.

Today, I'm thankful for:
New flavors in my favorite deli coffes! Banana Chocolate Coffee sounds funky, but damn, it's good!
A good night's sleep EVERY NIGHT for almost a week!
Wife!
Teaching today!
...and hopefully a nice, easy day at work.

Have an awesome Monday, friends! Life is good!

Good to hear from you stranger. One thing I did learn on my recent studies for exams, is that moderate drinking does increase your appetite. This is why the custom is there for a few drinks with meals. Anyway, have a great day Keld. Sounds like the band stuff is falling together nicely.

That makes sense, JP. But it doesn't change the calories in vs. calories out theory. :) It just makes me want to shove more calories in, thus "stalling weight loss".

Agree, like some others have pointed to in studies, I usually see a less than expected gain (dehydration), followed by huge gain about 2 days later, followed by rapid loss. It must be the hydration/hangover effects. :-) I have done my fair share of experiments in the past year, lol. That all being said, I steer clear of booze except for indulgence day, and even then only about once per month. Could be age, or weigh loss trumping social drinking as to what is important in my life right now.

For me it's not the alcohol per se, but the stuff that goes with it - crisps, nuts or chocolate are hard to say no to with a drink :)

Good luck with your 2nd class Keld.... Your tactic of sitting with them, is a good one. Discussions, so everyone can air their views and "hopefully" come up with a sensible conclusion, are not only enjoyable, but memorable. Hope they were successful in loosing - that's a good discussion point, whether they gained or lost - always good to ask "why do YOU think this has happened". They will nearly always know the answer - and has you know, from your own experience... And then asking how they see the next week going - what, if anything will they do differently.... coming up with their own answer and then a solution, will 'stick' better with them.
