Diea's Journal, 17 August 2018

I am very confused. I did not change anything this week besides go back to dance class. One hour of cardio and I gain 3.5 pounds? This makes no sense. I'm going to try to weight myself again this weekend to see if this is a fluke.

Also, I recently heard that weighing yourself once a week, or once every once in a while, is a bad indicator of your actual weight. Supposedly, if you weigh yourself every day AND take a weekly average, it's much better. The trend of the average weekly weight paints a much better picture of your weight and what is happening with your body.

Well, I just realized something did change. I have had four days this month where I did not get to my 17 hour fasting goal. I opened my window at 16 hours, sometimes even at 15 hours. Hmmm. Maybe I need to be a little more disciplined in getting to the 17 hour mark.

Oh my goodness. So many good thoughts..... other apps. Yes. I also use IF to track my fasting on the phone. It's so helpful. And as far as the scale not lying, whoa. I feel so much about that. Sometimes, I feel like it does. It lies when it says that I gained/lost 4-5 pounds in a day. That's just not a true depiction of where I am, you know. In terms of weighing yourself more often instead of logging food. I have definitely been there, @Swedishblondie.

g_ortegam....................I know that hole you speak of soooo well. The scale has thrown me off many a time. I'll be upset you know: smile less in public, be super pensive, and then crash. I once had a moment like this where I ended up eating a whole gallon of ice cream. Or a second breakfast/dinner/whatever. And I sabbotage myself. But FS has really helped with staying the course because you can see that people are really doing it. There are so many positive folk here, people who have succeeded so well in this road to health, happiness, and fitness. And everyone road is unique and powerful. It's up to you to decide whether you listen to a pessimistic mindset, especially when there is an ocean of positivity, hope, and transformation. Just saying. You don't have to listen to your thoughts; just acknowledge them, and thank them, and let them fly across.

By the way, wanting and working for a 4- to 5-pound weight loss on a monthly basis is a great goal, abbadabba! I totally dig that. It's more realistic you know, sometimes you lose 1 pound a week, sometime 2... it all adds up in the end to get the monthly mark.

They say women should only fast for 14-15 hrs max (google it) because of hormone issues. I weigh myself daily and average it (well Fitbit does it for me) and I agree that it’s the most accurate depiction of your weigh. Hang in there, you’re most likely just swollen!

Hey tsamtos2s8. Thank you for letting me know what you found. I hear there are many different research studies that point to different results regarding this. There is definitely stuff out there that cautions women about fasting and hormone issues. Other studies prove that it helps regulate different hormones and can even help with fertility issues. Some studies even show how hormones such as core vitamins and metabolic functions are cleansed and even repaired with fasting over 16 hours. This whole intermittent fasting this is pretty new, so we still don't know what exactly is happening to our bodies. And everybody's body responds differently to nutrition and lifestyle changes.

I went out of town last weekend and kinda stopped fasting for a bit, and it completely affected my hormones. My cycles had been stable and free of discomfort since I started fasting. But this week, after taking a break from fasting, my moon came with a vengeance. It's hitting me really hard right now, and I think it's because I dropped off from my fasting routine for a couple of days. I went from 16-18 hours down to just 12-14 hours. Oh my god. That was a big mistake. My hormones are out of control right now. For me, I feel like fasting more hours is resolving hormone issues. Maybe for you it doesn't/wouldn't feel good. Who knows. It's all very complicated....

My cycle started getting weird when I began fasting too. First it was extra extra late with pms lasting almost 2 weeks and then crazy early and the last one was exactly 28 days! Lol
