bloodaxe's Journal, 11 August 2012

Just doing a little math, in the last 20 days I've averaged 912 calories a day and lost 10.7 lbs - if I can keep to a half pound a day or so, I should be just under 200 in time for Christmas. I'll need more exercise, though, as I lose more, since I'll be burning fewer calories metabolically the more I lose. Biking still seems to be putting a strain on the achilles with tendinosis, so I have to keep icing after each biking session, sigh. More salad, less dressing too. Darn that high caloric dressing.

I understand the zeal, but you may be doing yourself a dis-service by such a low calorie count. The amazingly adaptable body will store up what it thinks it is being deprived of. I have read and heard in numerous places that approximately 1200 calories is as low as a guy should go. If you do not supply enough good fuel, the body will save some for later. Same with water. It isn't only a calorie count, but the quality of the calories. I see some people complain about not losing weight, even with low calorie counts, but upon further inspection, they are eating junk. The body will either burn fat or it will burn sugars. Eat quality foods, not processed, and cut down as much as possible on simple carbs and the sugars. Good luck to you.

I agree Serge. Your body needs calories and vitamins to work properly. If your not eating enof calories your body will go into starvation mode. When that happens, as soon you lost all the weight, and decide to stop dieting and eat normaly, you will gain all that weight back and even more. And if you don't eat enof fruts, veggies, and protein. Your body is not getting all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs to be healthy. So! Your gonna end up with multiple health problems. Don't be in a hurry its not worth it. :)

You should be eating 5 small meals a day ex: brackfast, snack, lunch, snack, and dinner. Its the choices of food you eats that matters.

That´s so true, I agree with Vero, your body needs fuel to keep moving and above all to burn calories!

900 calories a day seems very low... I'm not sure it's the best way to go. If it's only for a short period it might work, but in the long run I don't think it will make you lose weight and maintain the loss. Of course you know your body better than anyone else, but it might be a good idea to really, truly evaluate how many calories you burn and adjust your nutrition. Number of meals and how late you should eat and how many gallons of water and all that jazz don't matter, what matters is to bring the right amount of food to your body, every day. Do it low-carb if that's the right way for you, but feed your body!!
