Sandy701's Journal, 30 July 2012

I actually went out walking this AM when it was already 90 degrees (before 9AM!) and the reported heat index was 100 - YUK! However, I hadn't walked in a couple days, so I wasn't going to use the heat as an excuse.

Last week, I walked M-T-W, then worked on the yard both Thursday and Friday as my exercise. The Friday work plus the heat really did me in, so I didn't do any dedicated exercise on Saturday, and Sunday was my day off, as usual.

Today, I finished off the necessary phone calls and paperwork to change over our homeowners' insurance. I began that whole process back in late June so I wouldn't have to rush getting everything done at the last minute, but events conspired to make it that way anyway!

DH and I have usually been able to convince our mortgage loan officer to let us to buy and pay for our own insurance and not use an escrow for it, but this current loan was VA and their rules wouldn't let us do that. Whenever you get another party involved, it seems there's always more opportunity for someone to screw up something that I end up having to track down and fix. Oh well, nothing I can do about that now, just have to live with it and handle things that arise. But it's that kind of stuff that just drives me nuts!!!

I'm in the process of reading "The Cholesterol Delusion," a 2010 book by Ernest N. Curtis, M.D., a cardiologist. Amazing stuff. The book was recommended on the Eades' blog (a la Protein Power). Once I make it through that one and "The Great Cholesterol Con," I hope to go back through and read them side-by-side as they go through the various studies. There's also a scathing review on Amazon that I printed up that I also hope to reference as I go along. Unfortunately, there's no info on the credentials of the person who wrote that review, so I have to take that into account. Hopefully, I'll be able to "hear" both sides of the issue which is....Is high(er) cholesterol a problem?

The longer I live, the more of a skeptic I've become with respect to "conventional wisdom." That's probably the reason I went on Atkins! LOL!

I do my exercise walking on M-W-F, then pilates Tue-Thurs., Saturday is a toss up either walk or pilates at home, Sunday I rest. You do much more research reading than I've even done, maybe you should start a group with all your knowledge ?

W4, the more one reads, the more headaches one gets! LOL! I think we all have to make the best decisions for ourselves and feeling good about those choices is the best! I certainly agree that we all don't need that sugar! Hope you're having a great week.

Notfast, that's great that you've got such an exercise schedule. I've always wanted to try out Pilates.....until one of my buddies really messed up her back doing it (perhaps doing too much or not having the proper form?). Maybe I'll wait until I feel more adventurous!

Bren, it must be hard trying to walk on the treadmill when you've got 1 hand that is numb! The studies are pretty amazing....sometimes the SAME study is cited as being "proof" of BOTH sides of an argument! How can that be???!!! At least this is exercising my brain. Hang in there Bren...only a couple days until your MRI.
