I am not hungry - I do not need to eat

Glucose reading: 96 mg/dl

So I broke my 11 day fast yesterday. I held out until the afternoon, then I had a 400 calorie bag of trail mix from the vending machine at the office and it was on!

Insatiable hunger, both mental and real. This launched me into eating Lemonheads candy, bag of Quest potato ships and a huge FEAST of ribs (hey kids don't refeed like this at home!).

When this hits, there is no stopping it. You know what is happening... intellectually. You REALLY want to stop, but you can't! I ate until stuffed, waited 20 minutes, then ate carbs again until stuffed. I even snacked on a bag of frosted cheerios while lying in bed last night!

Get on the scale this morning and haven't gained a pound, wait! What??!

Oh must be that pound I gained yesterday WHILE FASTING! :) :) That pound that came from drinking only 300 calories yet running 3 miles and walking 15 steps...

Anyway, I know I should always feel gratitude and recognize the blessings.

Right now it is the morning and I AM NOT HUNGRY - therefore - I DO NOT NEED TO EAT. Period. This knowledge is the gift that 11 days of fasting provides me.

I don't need to eat "a little something" to get me through the day. The 'mental' BS in my head that "I just want to F##King eat something" was satiated yesterday.

This gets me off the train of hunger to constantly 'try to feel full'. Listening to those people who tell me: "You have to eat to fuel your body!" or "You need to eat or will crash your metabolism!". This has sentenced me to obesity all my adult life.

I think you have to go through an extended fast to believe this. No one can tell it to you. I have mentally committed to only eating only once tonight. I know I can do it.

We have dinners and events planned this weekend. I WILL gain weight. My primary goal this weekend is to try to minimize the weight damage I will do until my 5 day fast re-starts this Monday.

However, today I have the freedom to make a decision to temporarily free myself from this uncontrollable physical and mental addiction to carbs, by using the tool of fasting.

Have you tried Stevia? It's natural, no carb/cal, and super sweet. Splenda is sucralose, which is calories, ergo the BG spike.

@jimmiepop - Yes I have tried Stevia but it, and every other sweetener, tastes bitter to me, even in large quantities. I'm ok with the 'penalty' I have to take from the Splenda usage. However, it is good information to know about it because it may give me the motivation to at least 'cut down'. I think a person taking normal quantities would not have my reaction.

If you are using the packets of Splenda, they contain a bulking agent that is basically sugar and that is what is likely spiking your blood sugar. Liquid Sucralose doesn't contain dextrose or maltodextrin and doesn't spike my blood sugar. You might try it if you aren't already.

@adef Heard. It does taste bitter in large amounts.

@cjodyssey - I had no idea! Ordered! Amazon will have it here by tomorrow :) Thank you so much!!

You're welcome! I've stuck with Sucralose because i like the taste and because I've heard Stevia can have a bad aftertaste and tastes a bit like licorice which i hate.

Abef that type of binge eating was MY problem. Don’t know exactly what triggered it but I gotta say that completely removing carbs while doing Keto has vanquished that feral, mindless, all consuming desire to eat till I’m sick type of behavior I’ve been struggling with for yeeeaars. Maybe all that fake sweetener is holding you hostage. Like, tiding your desire over till it can take over again.

@CrashtestDawnie - I'm able to hold a fast (and out of control eating) with the Splenda. I just can't stop the out of control eating when I am not fasting. If I could actually keep my carbs to zero on Keto it would probably work for me :) But, when I eat, I only 'desire' carbs. I will literally push a plate of bacon and eggs away after a few bites.

@adef Have you checked out the Snake Diet guy on youtube? @ches sent me his way. He's the most ardent, profane proponent of fasting I've seen. Worth a look if you haven't yet.

@jimmiepop - I have watched his videos. A lot of good stuff. He IS more intense than me :) Just sayin :)

adef - I used to binge on carbs. Whole pizza, container of ice cream, entire bag of potato chips . . . Then last summer, my A1c tested as type 2 diabetic and I decided to take action. I now think of carbs as poison, lost 35 lbs, A1c is in the normal range. There are days my total carbs are under 5 grams. You just need something that motivates you, not wishing T2D on anyone but that did it for me.

@gz9gjg - If it comes to that I am sure I would somehow find the 'strength' to change.
