I'm not sure how I managed to lose 4 pounds in the past 17 days. I've mostly stopped counting calories because I just find it rather boring. I was sick for a few days with a fever, but I didn't think that would have such an enormous effect. Either way, I'm happy about it, and would still like to lose 8-12 more. I'm not sure if I should start counting again, or just stick to eating more or less reasonable amounts of mostly protein, vegetables, and some grains. Cutting back on sugar and snacking has probably made a difference. I'll comment again in 3 weeks.
