OK so I am really stressing. Boyfriend just told me last night that he "signed" me up to make my potato salad for a family thing on Saturday. That's well and good and I am fine with it even though I can't eat any of it. (I love my potato salad (sniff, sniff). Would have liked a little more notice though we live in the boonies and the nearest decent grocery store is an hour drive one-way. Not to mention it's all under construction right now too. Then I asked him what else was on the menu and he rattled off a list of foods I cannot have, like ham salad sandwiches, brownies, Aunt Jean's Tarts, etc. Mostly sweets. You get the picture.

Bread, mayo and the sweets are definite no-no's for me....HELP! How do you handle these situations?

Don't stress. Drink lots of water begore you arrive. Focus on the people, which is really why you're there right? Take Deviled eggs, any veggie platter, any salad, any raw veggie salad or just pack your own foods and sugar free deserts! Drink water there. If you're Asked, tell them you are "honoring personal goals". If commented on just smile pleasantly and ignore them---what other people think of you l especially rude ones) is none of your business! ;)

On 4th of July I had to make potato salad to take to a family barbecue. My doctor had told me to follow a diet where I avoid processed food and I had just started. I did good at the barbecue, had a burger with no cheese and no bread (just a bit of ketchup), a piece of watermelon and corn on the cob without butter (it was so sweet and didn't need butter). I had one TABLESPOON of the potato salad and it satisfied me. I lost 16 pounds the first month. But since then it's been tough to not eat any processed food. But portion control works for me at gatherings at someone else's house. I can eat a very small portion of things I like and it doesn't hurt me. But if I had a bowl of potato salad at home I couldn't handle it!
