I've stopped obsessively recording everything I eat, I kinda expect it can do more harm than good. Weight loss isn't something people should get obsessive about, it can get dangerous. We all know what's good for us and what's bad for us. I'm a big guy, not as big as I was but height doesn't change that much. I've been walking everywhere and eating ok. If I recorded everything obsessively I know I'd want to binge on crap. I'm getting by on less than 2000 calories most days, so I'm quite happy about that. Today my scales told me I'm 16st 3.5lb. In a little over a year I've dropped from a 44" waist with no belt to a 38" waist with a belt. Tops aren't that accurate really, but I've gone from XXL and bigger to mainly XL and L now. It's a good feeling, I can't believe how much I've lost and how healthier I'm feeling.

Many people can record food and not get obsessive about it. If it's part of your personality and feels like it's being overwhelming than it may be good to stop. No matter what, great job on the loss!

Sorry I've only just seen this comment. Thank you :) Yeah, I know it can be a dangerous game obsessively monitoring what you eat :-/ In theory it's easy though! Everyone knows what to avoid and what to eat if you're wanting to lose weight, but it's never ever going to be that simple. I figure it makes more sense to cut back than try to give up outright, cos as soon as something's forbidden it becomes more desirable! I do like the odd chocolate bar or beer but now it's a two or three times a week thing rather than every day like I used to. When I first decided I needed to lose weight, I decided I wanted to do it quickly. I gave myself three options for something to give up completely, either booze, carbs or meat. I gave up meat because I like carbs and booze too much. Yeah, course it's possible to have a perfectly healthy diet with good quality meat if you can afford it, but when I was eating meat I was eating all the processed crap and without even thinking about fat content, god knows what chemicals, preservatives and whatever else are in there too. I used to be a guilty meat eater anyway. I wouldn't go as far as saying I couldn't have got where I am now if I hadn't gone vegetarian, but I think it's definitely helped. I used to be such a picky eater too, I mean I went 28 years without knowing I actually like spinach, butternut squash, mango, brocolli and aubergine!
