Tarla's Journal, 23 January 2012

What a great way to start a Monday.

First thing this morning I went to give report and I was stopped in the hallway by one of the residents, who proceeded to tell me that I am way too fat and I should really consider losing weight, if not for vanity then for health reasons. Great way to start off my week! In the past I have always been very emotional (I would cry like a big baby) when someone would tell me that I was fat or that I needed to lose weight, but today was different, I didn’t get mad or want to cry. Maybe because I know I’m doing something about it? I’m not too sure why but I am determined to never get an inappropriate comment like that thrown at me by a stranger again! All my life I have received comments like “you would be so pretty if you lost weight” or “wow, what a pretty face you have, you should lose weight to show it off”. Well not anymore! I am going to do this till the end!

No more “fat comments” period.

You should not always be "nice". What gives other people the idea that they have the right to comment on your weight/looks/life/whatever. I know the answer, but it is a long discussion for another day. I once knew a very verbose person (for which I had the world’s respect ; not because of his crude people skills, but for his wisdom) and many years ago he said something that I will never forget: “never let people sh*t on your head, because if you allow it, they will rub it in too...”

Ugh. I would guess most of us have heard crap like that more times than we care to admit. Good for you not letting it get under your skin. Let it fuel your motivation to push forward!

You handled it nice. Always remember that it's easier to lose weight (once you know how to do it) than to stop being an inconsiderate prick. :) You're doing good - nice progress so far.

How dare that resident? How very rude and inconsiderate of them! I'm glad you've decided to not let it get you down, but instead motivate you to stay on the track that you are on! I think it's absurd that people feel the need to point out to someone overweight that they would be healthier if they lost weight. As if any of us do not know that already?
