Densible's Journal, 14 January 2010

Running up that hill both figuratively and literally. Walked home yesterday and ran/walked to office this morning. Made SU walk halfway with the beast, so everyone got some exercise. Feeling better. Did I mention I have gone gluten free? My dad is celiac and I have always tested negative but have all the symptoms, been reading about gluten intolerance and finally decided to see if avoiding wheat and other gluten makes a difference. I think it does! No bloating for a few days straight and my rashes seem less explosive.

My weight is still at 145 but at least I did not gain over the holidays-well maybe a little but 145 seems to be my mode weight for last year. Doing something about that....

My sister had lap band surgery New Years Eve and has lost 20 lbs. She has about 80 to go... I am so proud and envious (will I lose my "skinny one" title?-yes at 145- i am the skinny one in my family). Major health and esteem issues and the recent loss of her spouse...It will be strange to see her when she is "skinny" We will be able to share clothes again-first time since we were girls. At least living 3000 miles away will keep her grubby little hands out of my closet!, lol.

Gotta run!

Hope all is well in FS land. Pray/meditate for Haiti.

Good job getting that walk/run in! Glad that going gluten free is helping you too. I never realized how gluten can have such a negative effect on some people till I read about it on FS. Not gaining weight over the holidays is a BIG accomplishment! I'd be in HEAVEN if I could have done that! Kudos to you, Girlfriend!

Hey mb! Thank you-this am I even did some push-ups, leg lifts and crunches-could the loathed lunges be far behind? Funny thing about gluten-my other sister probably has celiac too-she is a chef and bereft!

I am definitely better off without gluten. But it's so hard. From what I can tell you are mostly better off not having anything that would normally include flour. Though now that I think about it, I have used a decent gluten-free mix. It's actually even good on chicken cutlets in place of bread crumbs. Not to mention in carrot cake. Pamela's is the brand name. The brownie mix is awesome--but it should be, it calls for an insane amount of butter. I have bookmarked a ton of gluten-free baking blogs but have never taken the plunge. (There was--it's all coming back to me--a brownie recipe that was supposed to be pretty good without flour but with black beans.) I always lose momentum and fall back to my puffy rashy self. Good luck with it.

I am one of those with gluten intolerance as well. It is very hard to keep away from it but when you feel so good it is a great incentive! Oh, and I have done the black bean brownies! They are really very good! Even the "regular" folks liked them. :)

I think that brownie recipe is on FS! Thanks for reminding me-wonder if I can replace the sugar with agave nectar or even splenda? Thanks for the flour mix rec-I used Bob's Red Mill for cookies for my Dad and I did not like it-need something that works for pizza-I WILL NOT live pizza free!
