Coming soon to a FS near you...

April 1st marks the scheduled month where I will do another therapeutic self-healing and natural metabolic detoxing 120 hour fast.

Don't try this at home if you have single-digit bodyfat or have never done fasting in your life. I'm not just a Veteran at the keto-diet, I'm also a Veteran at fasting.

In my anecdotal opinion, fasting may be depriving your physical body of food, but it feeds the soul and brings out the spirituality in you. It takes willpower to go that long without eating, but I'm on a keto diet, so I don't have to worry about carb cravings anyways.

Diet Calendar Entry for 28 March 2016:
2653 kcal Fat: 640.88g | Prot: 95.58g | Carb: 50.82g.   Breakfast: Roasted Salted Cashew Nuts, Kerrygold Unsalted Pure Irish Butter, Homemade LCHF Chili. more...

Why do you think fasting for 5 days (on water only?) is good for your health and weightloss? Its a tremendous shock to the metabolism and likely to send your hormones into survival mode, blocking fat loss at the expense of losing muscle, which will lower your metabolic rate and may damage your protein-rich organs. If you have been eating and drinking healthy for months (you have haven't you?) then there is no need to detox, your body will do this naturally every day. Please don't recommend this crazy plan to others, its harmful !!!

He didn't recommend it to others and he's a veteran at fasting. If you've never done it why put your two cents in??

Clare0116, It's not really a "shock" per say, since I'm already used to eating once every 24 hours and have been doing it consistently for 84 days straight since January 1st this year. It's safe to say that a 5-day fast isn't my greatest feat. You'll know if you've been following my posts that my greatest feat this year was my 14-day (336 hour fast), but I reserve that special personal challenge for once a year.

I may pull a 21-day Mahatma Gandhi next year, who knows. The body is just an extension of the mind. Fear is but ignorance that has yet to experience the glory of truth.

Please keep us posted on how you are feeling on this fast. Looks like you have complete control. Your body has adapted to 24 cycle. How often have you fasted for 120 hours. Is distilled water used and how much? When you break the fast what is your first meal?

That's all a fast is about, self-control. Your body should follow your mind, not the other way around. If you don't control your urges, your urges will control you. Well, At the beginning of the year, I started the New Year off with a 5-day fast, then went into a 24 hr intermittent fasting cycle, then in February I attempted and conquered a 14-day fast, a new record in my books. This is the second time I'm doing the 5-day fast. It's so funny people just cry taboo when someone goes on a fast that's only 5-days long, it isn't like I'm in Nazi Germany and gone 30+ days without food or water. Just one step at a time, slow increments, build up that resistance against fasting, which in turn will activate certain gene expressions (epigenetics) in your DNA that's been dormant since the last Ice Age that has a benefit of slowing aging, renewing/healing cells at a faster rate, increase telomerase production and reverse/slow down the splitting of the telomeres in your DNA, increase mental clarity by abstaining from foods full of pesticides, synthetic hormones, fluoridated water, etc. Anecdotally speaking of course. I'm getting too lazy to go back to all the scholarly references I've read just to post it to prove it to someone who is too lazy to look it up themselves, not saying it's you or anything. There have been people who come here with an agenda to just troll for the purpose of disrupting the intended positive energy in my posts. But to answer your other questions: I ONLY drink distilled water. I buy 12 gallons of distilled water a week. I do not cook with tap water and I don't trust bottled water like aquafina or *insert your favorite bottled water company here*. I don't even trust Spring water anymore, after I found out that pollution can contaminate Spring water as well as Spring water contains inorganic matter difficult to absorb and can harm our bodies. This is the same reason why I no longer take OTC vitamins. If it was created in a lab, I ain't taking it. When I break fast, I eat the same food I ate before I went on a fast, the keto foods. It's just that simple. I could literally live on zero carbs and just eat protein and fat for the rest of my life, but that's my personal preference. We live in a society that encourages the mass consumption of processed sugar and then takes no responsibility for the chronic illnesses that occurs after eating that much carbs for that long. In America, the word "moderation" is a myth. No one in America consumes anything, especially food, in moderation. So for me to eat a diet that's almost completely devoid of carbs and then go on a 5-day spree of no calories? It would sound like Blasphemy to a culture that's so religiously bound to carbs. When I break fast, I'll just eat the first keto food that come to mind and not even feel guilty about it.

As for how often I do 120 hr fasts, I did once in 2015. This year, this next incoming 5-day fast will be my second 5-day fast for 2016. I'll probably do another one in 3-4 months, right before cold binge-fest holidays, the fourth quarter of the year where most people gain most of their weight....right before they make another New Years resolution. If you know what you're doing and are mentally prepared for it, then it could be fun, but if even the thought of doing it stresses you out? Don't do it. Why? Because the stress itself is more dangerous than the fast.

BC I started my two day fast this morning...I had bullet proof coffee this morning to start the fat burning process....and no more food for the next 48 hours...unbelievable how good i feel while fasting....of course i am not a professional like you ...i have only done this two day one other time and it really kick starts my weight loss all over...and clears my mind...interment fasting i do a lot of times...when deep in keto i am never really hungry at all....there is nothing out there that compares to this type of keto life stile. what is so amazing about this way of eating is no cravings, no more snacking...no sugar, cake, noodles, rice, potatoes. for the first time in my life feel completely in control. My health has been improved so much both diabetes and blood pressure...in only three months. keep us updated on your progress.

Bc, What's your take on fat fasts? I've been seeing a lot of people on here doing it lately, and I've done a little research on it, but there's so much conflicting info that I can't tell if it'd be beneficial or not.

I wish to have the same enlightenment that you have someday. I never realized the poor water quality might be to blame for some of my poor diet. I normally was using tap water for things like coffee, figuring that if it boiled, it killed all the pollutants, but maybe I was doing it all wrong. I'm going to start using Distilled water as you do. I always learn something new from you! Thanks for all the advice you give!

Not new to fasting but haven't fasted in over a year. Have to get myself under control and fasting is the best way for me to gain the spiritual mind set to shed this weight. Not to mention fasting ride the body of many toxins.

Jessberry, Fat fasts are okay if you're into that sort of thing, but I'm doing a true (absolutely zero calories) for the planned amount of time. It's basically taking a break from all the face-stuffing and taking time for self-reflection on your recent eating habits. The first time I went on a 5-day fast in 2014-2015, I did have just fat during my fast (bulletproof coffee), but this year I'm doing zero calories, a true fast, like they did back in the old days.

In regards to pure water, there is lots of controversy since Flint, but in reality this has been a problem, and will continue to be a problem for a long time. Many even talk of bottled water being tainted, but I would rather believe in bottled water over tap, and some tap water is flat out dangerous depending where you live.

Just keep in mind, juice fasts are a contradiction, since juice contains fructose and fructose is technically a poison. Your body naturally detoxes itself, albeit slowly over time, all you need to do is give it what it needs, which is time.

I've been drinking distilled water for over 2 years and all myths about distilled water has been proven invalid, in other words, debunked. I get my vitamins and minerals from green veggies, so I don't worry about vitamin and mineral deficiency. Pure water is the best water to drink because water itself acts like a sponge when it runs through your body and absorbs the toxins when it's on its way out. I've been drinking distilled water for over 2 years and I have no teeth problems, so all these conspiracy theories about rotting teeth from drinking distilled water is misleading.

If you have a liver, you already have a natural detox method. If your liver cannot detox you, see a doctor.

Fred4win, I dunno I just filled up a decent sized bowl and used my eyes to gauge the 1-2 cups. The ironic thing is I have a digital food scale in the kitchen and I didn't feel like using it at the time. I was ready to destroy that chili and food weighing wasn't important at the time. If you want you can weigh out your chili and calculate everything with precision with actual measuring cups. The only things I counted in the chili were the 4 lbs of ground beef at 27% fat and 73% lean, the organic tomatoes + onion as total carbs came to below 50g. I averaged about 5-6 servings in a 1-2 cup amount, not exactly sure but according to my eyes, it looks like 2 cups. I have been wrong before when I thought and overestimated the onions to being 1 cup, but ended up being less than I thought. If you want to measure by 1 cup, go for it, if measuring by 2 cups, that's cool too. It doesn't really matter, just take the total amount of net carbs and divide it by the total amount of servings from your pot. 5 servings would bring each bowl to a stunningly keto of less than 10g net carbs per bowl. If 6 servings, expect less than 8.33g net carbs per bowl. The carbs are so low in that chili recipe that it's insignificant to even think about it. 8.33g of carbs per bowl? You could eat the entire pot that day and still eat less than 50g of total net carbs. That's how keto that chili recipe is. lol
