I did something this weekend that I highly recommend to anyone who has ever lost any amount of weight.
NOTE: Disregarding my slight rebound of 2 lbs on the scale this morning, I've lost 50 lbs. (Technically 51, since at my heaviest, I used to be 203 lbs) so that's the amount on which I based the following:
What I did this weekend was pick up and lug around a set of weights that equaled my weight loss to date, or close enough to it. Talk about an eye-opener! Hauling around 50 extra pounds in a backpack after having lost that amount from one's own body is a huge reality check. HUGE! Not to mention a wonderful motivator. Once you "drop the pack", you really get the instant satisfaction of being very light! :)
Think about it. 10 lbs of fat is the same weight as 10 lbs of metal. 10 lbs = 10 lbs. 20 = 20... 50 = 50. But that can just seem like numbers on a scale until you experience the gain or lost in an instant. Everything becomes clearer: what that extra weight is doing to your joints, your vital organs, your life. It's literally pressing you down to Earth. Persistent and constant.
I for one don't want to be pressured into my grave any sooner than absolutely necessary. So, I'm glad I made the decision to lose weight. I'm happy I took action and didn't put it off any longer. And I'm thrilled to have that 50 lbs of fat gone!

Wow! You are an inspiration. Congratulations on sticking with this WOL. What a great example of the extra weight most of us are still lugging around. Thank you for sharing that. <><

So true, I thought the same when I was moving bags of salt for the water softner (40 lb bag!). I really did think about how I used to lug that EVERYWHERE, EVERYDAY!

You know, salt bags might've been easier to handle than metal hand weights. :) Regardless, I'm glad I did it...and come to think of it now, I might do it more often. Lugging the extra weights around in a backpack — let's say while vaccuuming or mopping — could make for a pretty good workout! :)
