Weight loss simplified

Calories in > Calories out = gain

Calories in < Calories out = loss

Trick is finding what works for your body. Metabolism, type of calories, amount of exercise, proper sleep, staying hydrated, etc. all contribute to the positive or negative effect of losing weight.

One thing I can say with certainty is "DIETS DON'T WORK"

The only weight loss program that will work in the long term is one you can maintain for the rest of your life...skip the fads and find out what works for you...

Veggies, fruits, proteins (lean meats) are all vital to setting up a well balanced diet...and don't forget your supplements to maintain your health

I'm a 410lbs, 6'2" male with an obvious weight issue...I am now working on change but have been using supplements for several years.

My blood pressure is 126/80, my resting pulse is 72, my blood levels are great, I do not have diabetes; basically I am currently a fit obese guy :)

At 59 years old I do not take any prescription drugs for any ailment and don't plan on taking any anytime soon.

Started a life change this week to get rid of the spare tire...well in reality it is more like a truckload of spare tires...my new diet is sustainable and varied yet keeps me below 2,000 calories per day.

Welcome to FS! Awesome write up! A lot of have been down the 'diet road' before and we're back because it was either unsustainable or we thought that it was a temp fix for a life long problem. Recognizing early on that it is something that you need to maintain for the rest of your life is probably one of the biggest obstacles that we need to accept as just the facts of life.

Great post. I'm 60. A recent blood draw indicated I am prediabetic and I have bad cholesterol levels. I also have a heart condition called tachycardia, so I do take prescription drugs. My wellness nurse actually sat down and went through the report with me and pinpointed areas in which I need to improve. You are right about finding out what works for you. I had a nurse tell me once that men and carbs don't mix, so I am fixed on reducing carb intake to 250 g. per day which is a LOT. I started my diet on Aug. 13, if you want to call it that. Blaze on!

Well in my daily supplements I take the following; hopefully I remember them all since it's my wife that gathers them for me. Chromium, magnesium, zinc, Vitamin C and E, Evening Primrose Oil and "greens" powder which gives me 25 billion pro-biotics plus a bunch of other stuff

You said a mouthful and all of it is true! Good luck on your journey to weight loss. I am glad you are fit and take no meds. That is incredible! I was a diet junkie for years , eating disorders and ocd tendencies to work out like a maniac. PHEW! I learned eat less, move more and make it a lifestyle not a fad! Here's to you!
