smforte's Journal, 09 August 2011

So I've lost 12 lbs. in 4 weeks. 4lbs first and second wk and 3 the third wk. Struggled to lose 1 lbs. last week. I do hope this isn't the beginning of a slump or plateau or whatever.

But....I've given myself a reality check this morning. Analyzing some "nighttime" habits and wondering why I have them. Could be that I'm not eating enough during the day then by night as I cuddle on the couch to watch my fav. programs I get up 10 times to wander into the kitchen in search of that magic guilt free, carb free, calorie free snack that I can dive right into and eat until my hearts content. I have to laugh at myself as I nibbled on a small handful of macadamia nuts, 1 cup salad w/1 chicken wing and wonder what else there may be that may do the trick. I found myself in front of the refrig. with a Reddi Wip can in hand squirting it into my mouth. Funny that I don't really like sweets. That's never been my problem.

So, as of today I've decided to eat more during the day, hungry or not and see if this will kill the beast.

I'm also struggling with exercise or lack there of. I lost 60 lbs on Atkins previously but was also a member of a gym right around the corner. I went everyday and loved it. It has since closed down. I can't afford another membership and I have a fear of walking in my neighborhood since I was attacked by a pitbull and almost killed. I'm wondering if I could get up the nerve to somehow ask my Hispanic neighbor (who doesn't speak english and vice-versa) if I could take his very large dog who is pinned up in a small cage for walks. I feel so sorry for that dog and know it would be good for both of us.

So, as of today, good breakfast - check
begin exercise - check
no more grazing - check (that sounds so gross)
knock off the Atkins bars and shakes that may be stalling me - check

You're doing a great job! (and losing the Atkins bars just might prevent a complete stall!!) Not that I want you to be a shut in or anything, but there are lots of things you can do at home for free! I would really think about the neighbor/dog thing...in light of your attack previously... what if something like that happened while you were holding on to this big dog? Just makes me skiddish thinking about it. Do you have pitbulls in your neighborhood where you would be walking? Anyone you could partner w/ and walk together? Back to the at home thought... lots of cable choices for fitness workouts (if you have cable) they are free and in the On Demand section. Or the Library typically has free DVD's you can borrow. Plus the Internet is full of them. And of course there are always the basic calthestics (that's not spelled right I'm sure! LOL) but you get my drift. Good Luck w/ whatever you choose... and I do think you increasing your protein just a little at each meal thru out the day...will help end the nighttime grazing. Good Luck.

Thanks so much jsfantome: Yep there are pits in my neighborhood and the partnering thought doesn't help considering my husband was with me when the attack happened and he couldn't even keep the dog off me. I know I won't do any exercises at home. I HAVE to get out to do it. (that's why I'm in the shape I'm in LOL) I just know me. I'm really into gardening and work in my yard however it's been so dang hot here in AL it's been impossible to be out there longer than 10 mins. I do try getting out very early. If only I had somewhere to put a treadmill. I'll get creative! Thanks for your input. It's always appreciated.

Do you have a Planet Fitness nearby??? They're only $10 bucks... But I would skip the dog walking idea til you feel more safe. Don't want to go thru that again! Scary stuff!!!
