Debbie Cousins's Journal, 21 January 2023

Today is a LONNG day! I got up at 4 (as I often do), and this day seems like it’s never going to end. I was bored, so I made Jackstraws (melted butterscotch chips, peanuts & Crispy Asian Rice Noodles). Bad idea. I had one today (so far) and I am planning one for tomorrow, which puts my average daily calories over by 20-something. I was STILL bored, so I vacuumed six areas of my home. That was a GOOD idea, as I’m hosting a birthday party here on Wednesday! STILL bored! When I’m bored, I want to eat! So far, I’ve resisted everything except the Jackstraw. Only one more hour til I can have my dinner. After that, the rest of the day goes quickly (since I go to bed at 5pm.

What do YOU do when you’re bored and want to eat?

I did the dishes, ate dinner, did my nightly topical cream routine (for yeast infections), put a bandaid on my toe, and ate one more Jackstraw (110 additional calories). The only thing on my To Do List that I did not do today was the Bible Study lesson for my phone call on Monday. I’ve still got almost an hour to kill before I can go to bed. Been playing a word game to bide the time. Guess ill do a couple of surveys next to see if I can earn some pennies. (Have earned almost a dollar so far today.). My knee has already started hurting because of the rain that’s coming at 10am tomorrow. HEY, this is letting me type MORE in the app than usual! Before, if you went over the allotted words, you would be typing blind.

Brew a pot of hot tea and give myself a good facial, exfoliating shower, sand (not literally) the bottom of my feet and oil it all up. If I'm still bored I pack a bag, get dressed and go on a road trip.

Any hobbies? Knitting takes my mind off food. Meditation helps me too!

How about taking up a hobby— like jigsaw puzzles.

I have no self control so I just don't have in the house things I can't have. I surround myself with stuff I can eat as much of as I like: button tomatoes, cheese, eggs, salami, olives, diet lollies (you have to pace yourself with those as they are laxative) and if all else fails, I will have a cup of milk with a teaspoon of milo which is something like 15 carbs so I don't do it often. The mouth feel of the tiny little tomatoes is amazing, and really sorts me out. I get a little dish of food I am 'allowed' and go to my spot on the couch with a cuppa, and watch a crime show. As the food insecurity wanes I am less fixated on food, and as my sugars become more stable and my energy becomes more stable I am feeling less actual hunger. It's like burning fruitwood instead of pine; I'm released from a burden of constantly needing to refuel and it's not a misery it's a perk. And when I can stick to this, as I am doing recently really well, I lose good amounts of weight.

I watch a movie, DRINK a ton of Water, review my food log and see what it will look like to log it...and sometimes I just eat it and enjoy it. depends on the calories...

I am trying to resist sugary stuff, but it is amazing how much one small square of 92-95% Ghirardelli unsweetened chocolate does to appease that craving. Just stop at one piece. And hot tea, several cups.
