Today is a new bright beautiful day! I beat the the feelings of hopelessness of yesterday! And, I got back an answer from my old trainer who helped me lose 40lbs about a year and a half ago (I had to quit cause I lost my job and couldn't afford him) So, what he said was, that a cheat day is WAY overkill. He said,

"One ENTIRE day of cheating is overkill and too much. I do believe in one cheat MEAL a week. I do mine on Saturday nights from 10-11p. I pretty much eat WHATEVER I can stuff myself with and whatever I craved during the week. This WILL bump up your metabolism for a couple of days. An entire day is too much though. Pick one hour out of the week and eat whatever you want and as much as you want."

well, I think I can do that!! Especially if it will kick up my metabolism!

He also said (in regards to the scale not moving):"
You are probably not losing WEIGHT becasue you are gaining a lot of the muscle back that you had lost when you took time away from lifting weights. I am SURE that you have lost body FAT. That is why assessments are important-so that you know exactly what you are losing and gaining."

I hope sometime in the next few months I will have the money to take him on again! BOY, was he good! I lost like 40lbs of fat in 3 months.. I was pretty awesome! I just don't want him to see me now that I've gained it all back! Sa-ad... Oh well, on my way back down and nothing is stopping me!

I used to do the "cheat thing" but I found it just kept me from realizing that this is not a chore that I need a break from. Eating right and moderately (note not starving myself to lose, moderately) is not something that is painful, its actually what my body wants to do. The cheat day or hour just helped me continue in the Yo-Yo up and down "diet" mode. If I was on a "diet" I needed a break. Now I eat moderately and I can't "cheat" there is nothing to cheat on. Just food for thought.

Cheat days are trouble waiting to happen. The risk is too high, and the reward is too small. Incorporating "cheat" foods into your daily allowance of calories is a better idea. If you really want a cookie, eat it, but know that you just lost 300+ calories in 5 seconds.
