My nerves are getting the best of me tonight. Big day tomorrow at work and I'm doing a late night round of prepping. I am slightly agitated that I'm spending my evening/night working rather than running or cycling tonight. But, I also recognize that if I don't get prepped tomorrow will be a disaster. Usually when I am prepping I stress-eat the entire time. It is taking a lot of restraint not to do that tonight as well. I did eat a half a cup of pomegranate seeds and two light string cheeses. I'm still well within RDI. It is just old habits of wanting to munch on something as I draft documents that keep haunting me. That, coupled with procrastination. I've had all week to work on this matter. But, really didn't get started until it was crunch time. And, I'm debating taking a nice, long bubble bath so that I can further procrastinate.

So, I've been trying the intermittent fasting this week and, frankly, I do not feel real successful with it. I tried doing a 24 hour fast and coupling that with a 16:8 fast on all other days. I don't think combining both of those fast programs was ever suggested anywhere, but I convinced myself that would be a fantastic idea. The 24 hour fast was easy and I feel that I can easily accomplish that two days a week in accordance with the 5:2 plan. But, an 8 hour feeding window on the other days just simply isn't feasible with my work schedule without cutting out even more calories. Right now, I'm averaging 1200 calories a day. I do not feel that I should go any lower than that. I just can't get home from work on time to eat within the appropriate window on the 16:8 schedule. I was able to accomplish it on Monday and Tuesday, but it went to Hell the rest of the week. I'd like to keep at the 24 hour fast two days a week. I think I can manage that, even on vacation.

I'm still doing the sugar fast challenge this week. So, I have been without any sugary snacks, except sugar that naturally occurs in fruit. I did put a piece of chocolate from the Swiss Colony gift I received up in the refrigerator to save for me. It is a small piece, maybe an ounce. I will eat it Sunday evening after I have completed the challenge. It isn't a reward for completing the challenge. I just think I'd like to enjoy a piece of chocolate for Christmas.

Ok. Time to get back to work. Or take a bubble bath.

Hey, at times when I'm used to munching... three things that have worked well for me: 1) Keep a big glass of water nearby. Everytime I get the urge to nibble, take a big swig. And 2) Sugar-free gum. And last 3) Sugar-free jello. Eat as much as you want... extra fluid, really. I've never been a big jello fan, but the lime one isn't bad. These are all virtually calorie-free and have worked wonders for me. Good luck!!!

Sugar free jello, you're a genius! I dont know a whole lot about the fasting diets but it sounds to me like the 5:2 would work best for you, don't beat yourself up because you can't do both. I know keld loves those programs because theyre easier to maintain so don't go making it complicated. I tend to get a little crazy about everything and anything when I'm stressed, so maybe you'll feel better once Friday is behind ya. Sounds like you have a lot going on in diet and in work, a day off and some good chocolate is definitely in order. Hope you have a good day!!!

I constantly read of the fasting approach here and I think I likely am IF'g when I consider I go without eating for about 14 hours anyway (except for coffee and water) by instinct rather than looking at a clock and thinking 'come on... 30 more minutes and I get to eat' or 'dang, I only have 10 more mins to eat'. I don't know. I know what you mean about 'stress eating' - breaking that habit of 'chewing on something' is a hard one. Maybe you should take up smoking? (KIDDING!!!!!) You're definitely on the right track by making healthier choices while you work to break that habit. I don't know if you're working alone where this doesn't bother others but how about putting music on in the background and singing? I've found it fills the 'void' while I'm trying to concentrate - usually I put something on that's Italian or French so the actual lyrics aren't distracting me but it keeps my subconscious busy enough that it doesn't allow as much left over room for thinking about food.

Sugar-free jello! Yes!!! I'm going to do it. I have the water...and I'm guzzling that by the gallons, but sometimes it doesn't satisfy that urge to consume something...well, not liquid. My big day at work is behind me now. I could kick myself. All that stress and build up for something that was easy. Bella, the music thing is a good idea. I might need to get headphones to keep from bothering my partner in the next office. Maybe I will give the headphones to him so that I can sing along without him cringing.

Wooo hooo!!! We're all in the Jello parade! It's funny, but it really does help. And Bella, music is a great idea. I already do that one too! It's become second-nature, I always have it in the background. Right now it's Christmas tunes on 181.FM streaming. :D Barely any commercials.
