Sandy701's Journal, 19 November 2010

3.1 miles walked this afternoon. My speed's been increasing. With the dogs, it's around 3.25 mph or so and today it was 3.38 mph. So, I'm splitting the time on the exercise diary to give a rough approximation. What is so encouraging is that I'm not trying to walk faster, it's just happening!

I took a trip to a neighboring town to get a haircut at the shop I've been using recently. Of course, that means I get to stop at JoAnne's Fabrics & Crafts to see what I absolutely MUST have because JoAnne's is less than a mile away from there! All in all, a very nice couple of hours this morning. Now back to reality!

I'm putting the final touches on the OCC boxes which I'd better get done....they're "due" Sunday! A few things actually won't fit, so I'll tuck them away for next year. I could add another box for this year, but I've already added an extra one.

Yesterday, I made another batch of the Pumpkin Chipotle Chili. This batch has a bit more heat than the last one....I think it's the partial can of Rotel "Original" diced tomatoes with chilis and the extra chipotle pepper I put in that gave it the extra heat. It's not too much, but you're very much aware it has peppers!

Well, it's time to rinse off from my walk and then it's on to a snack!!!!

Hi Sandy :) You had a happily-busy day.Is this exercise log in fs accurate? How to put in yoga and pilates and weight lifting?I guess it mainly depends on intensity of the work out rather than duration.I came up with a nice work out routine nowadays and am feeling pretty good about it.But diet...Nothing other than Atkins works :) I will do induction shortly.Have a nice time Sandy.

Hi Anita...We should get Stef (ctlss) to give you an opinion on the accuracy of the FS exercise logs, as she's been utilizing a LOT of entries!!! As for me...I think the calories expended in walking is accurate. The inaccuracy comes from people thinking they're walking faster than they really are! The only other exercise entry I utilize is Stairmaster and that's easy because I enter it under "Other." The Stairmaster automatically calculates my calories based on the weight I enter and the program I do, so those are the calories I enter in the database myself. Have a good day....I'm off to bed.

Sandy, you are doing fantastic! That is so awesome. I calculate my speed by the distance divided by the time. It takes me 30 minutes to walk 2 miles, so 4 mph. I did some double checking on the calories burned, and since there are discrepancies in the numbers due to un avoidable variables, I simply don't enter as much as I do on a lot of things, or don't enter parts of my daily routine!

Stef, you are among the handful on here that I believe are really walking as fast as they log! I think some use a treadmill and log the speed from there. But I believe the concensus is that walking is easier on a treadmill than outdoors, and also easier than walking indoors NOT on a treadmill. I also think others just don't know how to calculate their walking speed and/or go by the FS descriptions which are a bit misleading IMO. In any event, it makes no difference to me how people list their own exercise, but I hate to see people thinking they should be losing lots of weight simply because they see these huge calorie deficits that are created by logging a mistaken speed.
