Had a nice, brief, chat with my mom this morning about weight loss. She seems to think I have issues with negative self talk, still. I tried to tell her that I've been working really hard on thinking positive thoughts only, for the last couple of months. i.e. "you can do it, Christina!", or "I WILL acheive my ultimate weight". However, the last couple of weeks it's almost as though my 'umph' has dwindled to a mere thought.
Anyway, I found myself possibly coming up with my stumbling blocks while talking to her. 1) My insulin resistance. I measure my weight loss against other people, forgetting that I have insulin resistance, and end up feeling discouraged. I've had a couple of doctors tell me that having insulin resistance makes losing weight much more difficult than for the average person. 2) That being said, I need to work harder in order to lose weight. I need to put more effort into exercise and really watch the carb intake. 3) I am addicted to sugar and need to suffer through 2 weeks without sugar in order to clean out my system to get rid of the cravings. THAT is gonna suck! However, something I heard the other day, that is encouraging, is this: If we pay now, and work hard now, easy will follow later and we'll be happy for it. If we take the easy way now, we'll pay later and we won't be happy for it.
So, guess I better accept the fact that I need to pay for it now rather than later. I'll be happier for it 20 years from now.

Wow, you've really thought this out well. You recognize your problem with the sugar and insulin resistance and you have a plan. Thats always a great way to start. Have you checked to see what kind of foods/diet will help you lose with your insulin resistance? obviously cutting out sugar but maybe even checking the glycemic index of your foods and choosing the ones on the low glycemic list (South Beach recommends low glycemic foods). I printed out the list but it is rather limiting to stick to only low glycemic foods, I have to put some "medium" in once in a while. I've been at a plateau myself for a while and need to kick it back into gear. Come on gal, lets DO IT!! You've done great at maintaining and have lost some along the way, so now its just a matter of kicking it up a notch, you can soooo do this!

Janelleas: Yes, I CAN do this! I just need to be willing to accept the fact that I'm going to have to work harder at it! LOL The last doctor I saw about my weight was a naturopath and she is the one who suggested the South Beach Diet to me. She also explained how insulin resistance works and why it's so important for me to keep my insulin levels 'level' rather than like a rollercoaster. She gave me some good visual aide. After I left her office I immediately went to the bookstore and bought a copy of The South Beach Diet, as she had me scared! LOL She told me I needed to eliminate, and I mean ELIMINATE, SUGAR and alcohol from my diet. That is really hard for me to accept. But, if I want to be here in 20 years, I need to. So, this coming Sunday I am planning to start on phast 1 and do my best to stick to an exercise regime. The naturopath also explained to me why exercise is so key for me and that I need to exercise EVERY DAY! UGH! I really dislike exercising but have tried to commit to at least 2-3 days a week. Obviously, that isn't enough. I need to also accept the fact that I need to exercise every day. Purposeful, specific exercise...not mowing the lawn, not doing house work...EXERCISE! Today I plan to look into some DVDs I saw advertised on the tv that had to do with exercising 10 minutes a day. Who can't set aside 10 minutes?! I figure I can do those exercising on the day I don't go to the gym. Thanks so much for your support, Janelleas. Your words are encouraging. You too, veggies yuk! I will do this! I WILL DO THIS! Did I say, I WILL DO THIS?! lol

i like that quote, its so true, and i bet you will be happier for the decision in just 2 weeks! i know there is no better motivation than seeing your own chart go down... stop worrying about staying still and work hard to move it down. then you be on your way again! you have done 15 pounds already, you can do this again!

Hey girl... we might want to (since we seem to be in the same dang sinking ship! LOL) consider looking more into the Mediterranean diet. My doc says that is steers away from the carbs that are harboring us from loosing the way that we need to, but it does include the good veggies and healthy fats. Along with South Beach, it excludes sugars/flour, I believe, too. I don't a lot about details of it, except that it's similar to South Beach, and I think a bit more strict and geared more to be better with the insulin resistance that we BOTH are blessed with lol. I do say BLESSED with, as we will be teaching our daughters a better way of eating. :) As UN-Fun as it seems, it's still a good thing. ;) xoxo WE ARE GOING TO DO THIS!!

Good news! I went to the book store and found myself 2 different types of exercise DVDs. One is The South Beach Diet Supercharged exercise video and the other is a dance workout, with bands, that consists of 10 minute routines. I figure 'who can't handle 10 minutes?', right?! I almost didn't get the SBD workout but figured they made it to enhance the diet so why not. Bullyt, I'm willing to try if you are. =) drd3775, I have copied the list of allowable foods on phase 1 and the eating plan, for ideas, and am already getting my mind in gear to do it the full 14 days! I'm in the same boat you are...one stinkin' bite of a carb and I'm done for! lo ((hugs)) to you all! =) I'm feeling better already! Especially knowing that Janelleas is 'excited' for me! hee hee

South Beach diet says that if you want to follow along with it's eating recommendations, when ever given the choice, to chose Mediterranean. I used to live on the Mediterranean so I am familiar with the dishes and when I was losing on SB, I followed along those lines. Good luck in whatever plan you do and as always, best wishes!
