Eringiffin's Journal, 05 October 2012

Just finished Princess' vet consult for gall bladder surgery. It seems like taking out her gall bladder would be the optimum choice. Despite the risks involved with any kind of surgery, it's less likely to get better on its own just with medications.

However, they want something like $2,700 - $3,500 for this surgery. That is going to break the bank at a very delicate time in our finances. If she was a young dog, I wouldn't hesitate, but she's already getting close to the expected lifespan of a dog of her breed.

It's a hard choice in any case since treating the problem with medications isn't exactly cheap, either. Plus, she seems perfectly healthy at the moment. If we hadn't done the ultrasound for an unrelated issue, we wouldn't even know about this ticking time bomb.

I am tempted to wait for a while. It will give me a chance to make a financial plan for this expense, plus the surgeon says there is no hurry at this point. It's hard knowing where to draw the line between being a responsible pet owner and being responsible with your finances. Clearly, if she were in pain or suffering, it would be an easier choice.

I don't know if I will get another pet. It's heart breaking when they die and they are so expensive, too. Maybe I'll get a fish tank, hehe.

I gained weight yesterday, too. Ugh. I know it's because of all the high sodium foods I ate and too many carbs. I was feeling really sick last night and I was in no mood to fuss over what to eat. I just ate whatever was on hand, which happened to be left over pizza. Oh well, I am feeling much better today I just have to get through a birthday party. The 230's are proving very difficult to put behind me.

Today I am thankful for having time to make the decision about Princess. I am thankful for payday. I am thankful for the people that I love that love me back! Thanks, HCB, for that last one.
