Sandy701's Journal, 28 August 2012

Hurricane Isaac is heading a bit further to the west as of this AM, so we're very much on the fringe of everything. That's great news for us, not-so-good for the New Orleans area.

Surprisingly, we found out my BIL is keeping his plan to travel from the Upper Midwest to NO this weekend - is he NUTS???!!! He's going to be traveling through Isaac much of the way and who knows what he'll find in the NO area. Oh well....he's always been a bit of an adventurer.

Here, the weather goes from overcast to bright sun and then back again. Very warm and quite humid, maybe even more so than usual for us. I went out walking this morning (3.1 miles) and had to hang onto my visor a few times to keep it from being blown off my head.

The way things look for us, I think we only need to be sure anything that could be blown around is secured - and they are. Trash pick-up DID occur this morning, so the cart is now safe inside the garage.

We still have tropical storm warnings up and a tornado watch, so it appears we could still get some storms working in here, but so far, so good!

Still a bit of stress-eating happening, but I'm trying to work on it with smaller amounts of food and some slightly different foods. I'm also trying to come up with activities that I really enjoy to divert my attention.

I am glad the worst is missing you at least, but still has to be stressful...I can only imagine, perhaps the anticipation is the worst part, not knowing for sure...and then the storm lasts FOREVER. Not like here in Wisconsin at all. Tornados are our worst threat & they still haven't figured out how to give more warning, so blissfull ignorance I get. If you have any Atkins bars, try cutting them up into little tiny pieces (they take way much longer to eat). When I do mine, I make LOTS of them up, putting only 1/2 a bars worth in a tiny snack size ziplock. That way your portion is controlled, you can have a little bit of different flavors...hope that helps!

Hey there GG...I'd much rather get ready for a hurricane than have to deal with tornadoes. Thanks for the Atkins bar tip. I might try that with some of the larger bars, as I doubt I could do much with the one that's like a Payday...already too small (!!!) and I doubt I could make more than 4 pieces out of it. Heaven knows DH has a good assortment of larger bars that probably could be cut up pretty well, so I could make a nice flavor variety!

Am so glad it missed you, but not so glad for New Orleans - and yes, your BIL is nuts! As for stress eating - the only advice I can give is don't do what I do. I've discovered cinnamon flavored peanut butter. Whatever you do - do not buy that!

LOL...Sandy, I DO cut up the Payday one, I get about 6-8 pieces per 1/2 bar. Trick is to eat each very slowly & totally enjoy it.

Bren, I just heard about the thousands and thousands that are without power in NO...my BIL will be taking quite the vacation....assuming he makes it all the way down there....staying in a hotel w/o power and so no a/c or elevators!

Hey there Yvonne! One thing I'm sure you can appreciate....when there's a storm warning down here, all real estate closings are suspended! No closings....no homeowners' insurance written. Basically, whatever is in place as the warnings are issued STAYS in place until after the storm. Makes sense, but it can sure add to the stress level.

GG... SERIOUSLY???!!! Sorry, but I don't have a laser knife! LOL! More power to you if you can cut that one up that small!

LOL...didn't say it was easy, no laser knife, but I do still have all my fingers!

PS - I do have one of those gin-su knives!
