Day 5 of NO COKE ZERO and NO ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS!!! I have to say that I miss Coke Zero more than any food item I could think of. Seriously, if someone said to me right now, "you can have either an entire casserole of cheesy, greasy enchiladas with chips and salsa OR an ice cold Coke Zero poured over ice for NO calories, fat, or carbs - you choose", I'd have to pick the Coke Zero...Amazing what an addiction this is for me. You would think a fat person would pick food over a diet soda. If that is not evidence of how bad it was for me then I don't know what would be. I hope I can keep going strong with abstaining. I've never got beyond 9 days without it before but for some reason I think I can do it this time.

I really do buy into the idea that diet soda was causing my brain to crave eating/drinking something more.

I would choose the " entire casserole of cheesy, greasy enchiladas with chips and salsa" and wash it down with a diet pepsi, lol! But hey, a girl can dream, can't she.....

I felt a real adiction to soda also until I switched to seltzer water. They come in lots of different flavors and are calorie and sodium free. I still quench my thirst and craving with the carbination but none of the bad stuff

@Rckc - Hahaha! I'm sure that would have been my next thought after finishing the Coke Zero, LOL. @Scplumme - is there any artificial sweetener in the flavored seltzer water? I'm trying to stay away from that as well. I'm convinced that when I drink something sweet tasting that it makes me crave carbs/sugar. Though I did think that if I just come to a day when I can't take it anymore that maybe I would 'cheat' by drinking something like that, but I really hope I can stay strong with it.

no sugar or artificial sweetners! BUT be careful....dont buy anything but SELTZER. Flavored sparkling waters are loaded with chemicals

I was addicted to Diet Coke and after I got off it for awhile I had one and didn't like it. The longer go go the easier it will get. The Seltzer sounds like a good idea I just used water and tea. Hang in there you can do it.

Thanks everyone! So I went to the store tonight and I did find the flavored Seltzer water...read the ingredients and sure enough, it says carbonated water and natural flavoring, with no carbs and absolutely no mention of any sweetener anywhere on the bottle...I'm such a skeptic that I brought it home and just kept looking at it all evening, afraid to try it worried that it may have some kind of sweetener LOL. Finally, my husband tried it for me and assured me that it did not taste sweet, so I gave it a sip too. So funny because I really stressed out over it and turns out I didn't even like how it tasted Hahahaha!!! I still appreciate the suggestion though. This site you supporters have been great only two days on. Thanks All!

On Day 8 now and had a Coke Zero Winning Moment today. Broke 'years' of a bad habit...every week, on grocery day, I would ALWAYS grab a single serve bottle of Coke Zero after finishing grocery shopping in the check out line. I mean EVERY time. I would have that bottle drank before I got home. Usually I was pretty thirsty, sad to think I was quenching that thirst with diet soda. Today I broke the chain...Instead, I didn't grab anything and after loading up the groceries into the car I drove straight to the nearby McD's, went through the drive through, and bought a large un-sweet tea! It was kind of funny because the girl hear me very well through the speaker and couldn't understand what I was trying to order so I had to say it 3 times LOL. I live in the deep south, so I'm sure it is not very often that someone comes through and orders an un-sweet tea as opposed to sweet tea. Told myself I wouldn't do fast food anymore but I guess McD's will get my un-sweet tea business every Saturday LOL.

Going to chime with my "Good For You!!" on getting rid of diet soda and artificial sweeteners. I too feel I had a terrible habit of needing a bottle, glass, can of diet coke to sip on all day, everyday, 24/7. I can't even tell you when that started, but will just say years. I gave it up as of last August. My GD and daughter were the ones that actually quit before I did. My daughter felt it helped with her weight loss and my GD, who didn't do diet, but reg soda, wanted to quit because of the sugar in it. She has not had soda in 2 years now and rarely eats sweets. My daughter has been off the diet for almost a year now and lost a little weight in that time too. No big amount though. . Me, well I decided if they could do it, then I should at least give it a try and found that each day I went without the easier it got. I don't have the cravings for salty snack type foods either and found it easier to turn away from all the chips and dips, snack kind of food around over the holidays because I wasn't drinking soda. (it may just be a head thing, but I'll take it, as it has kept me on my journey for better health) Now as far as flavored selzer/sparkling water, you either like it or you don't. When I do buy, I usually buy the plain and add a slice of lemon, lime to mine. I also drink unsweetened ice tea and add my own lemon to that. Sorry for the windy post, just wanted to send out a congrats on the no diet soda.

Thanks for sharing your stories too ptgrand and booboisie! The un-sweet tea thing is starting to grow on me. It seems like I'm feeling my 'thirsty' more often too. And drinking water and tea now does quench the thirst. So inspiring to know you guys have been able to stay away from it long term too!!
