I'm 63 and not handling that too well! I plunged myself into the Scarsdale Diet (was successful with it twice since 1992 and later on), and it's really helping me become friends with food. I've had eating disorders since age 16 or so, so my body image is kind of distorted. We had a very tough last 2 years, and 2016 seems to be looking up finally. I'm a Christian since 1973, but as my friend tells me, "Sheila, your life has been HARD." True, and it may be hard til I pass away.

I'm glad I found this group. My goal weight was 125, but if I keep doing well (and start back at the gym and walking after 20+ years as a medical transcriptionist; i.e. VERY SEDENTARY LIFE FOR YEARS), I'll try for 120. I'm 5'3" and have gone from 154 two months ago to 143-144 (hovering there) currently.

It helps to log in what I eat every day because I "slightly cheat"...I've finally figured out I need to drink WATER and lots of it per day...and stay on course. This diet is re-teaching me how to approach food in a normal way. Thanks for you all being here and blessings, endurance and joy!

Looking for very low carb recipes
Hi, Deanie D. I just shared a carb and fat-free raspberry dressing, which isn't much of a recipe, but it's a way to have loads of salad veggies and enjoy them! Congrats on your 15.8 lb. weight loss! Awesome! I went back to my old Scarsdale Diet, which is very low-carb but not Atkins. I bought a used Scarsdale Diet book on Amazon for $4.00 and it's full of recipes that are largely low-carb. You can Google Scarsdale Diet and probably get lots of recipes there. It's an old diet, so things like having "all the roast lamb you want" for dinner is very expensive nowadays. I substitute the expensive meats with chicken/fish/lowfat hamburger. If you like Greek yogurt (22 to 23 gm of protein per cup and about 130 calories per cup too), a go-to breakfast, lunch or dinner of one cup of Greek yogurt, with a cup of berries with stevia mixed in to taste, really holds you over! This isn't a recipe, but it's something you might like to try. It's high-protein.

Homemade raspberry salad dressing
I've been used to stevia, so if you don't mind that in place of sugar, this might be a good absolutely calorie/sugar/fat-free salad dressing. I made it up a few nights ago and it's pretty darned good. I bought some raspberry extract in the baking section of my grocery store for starters. Here it is, approximately!!

Raspberry/balsamic vinegar sugar-fat-free salad dressing:
1 to 2 teaspoons of raspberry extract
1 cup of balsamic vinegar (I had pomegranate balsamic on hand)
Small amounts of stevia or artificial sweetener to taste
Sea salt to taste
garlic
home-grown rosemary leaves, smashed or in bits

Add raspberry extract to your balsamic vinegar (raspberry balsamic vinegar is on grocery shelves too)

Add stevia/sweetener, salt, garlic and rosemary and put in a bottle you can keep in the fridge. Let the flavors merge for a couple of hours if you can. Taste it as you go along to adjust for sweetness and other flavors.

The beauty of this is that it's absolutely sugar and fat free. It's watery, but you have to deal with that, or put some kind of corn or other syrup in there, which kills the whole idea!

Birthday party eating - pray for me today!?
Thank you for your supportive words! This morning I was down one whole pound, and I KNOW it's because they offered bottled water at the party. They had a caterer who made great food...including thin crust gourmet pizzas. I had less than one slice, some green salad with unavoidable oily dressing, a little pasta salad. They had a wine tasting guy who pressed me to have some of his wine; I ended up with a very small glass the entire day. At night, I had 3 mandarin oranges and more water. I stayed away from the cake, but I couldn't NOT have some brie and 2 other "stinky" (which I love) types with toasted pecans. Overall, I did pretty well, given that my very most favorite foods were there. Thank God! I woke up in the wee hours of the morning and couldn't get back to sleep - praying I wouldn't see evidence of the party when I weighed in today. I'm tired from lack of sleep, but I'm thrilled about the weigh-in!

Birthday party eating - pray for me today!?
Today is a big "gourmet bash" for a relative 60 mi. away. I ate my usual Scarsdale breakfast so I wouldn't have an empty stomach there. It starts at 2 p.m., and they're bringing in a wine tasting person. My relatives are big on scrumptious foods in abundance. Once I have a glass of wine, my inhibitions about food go out the window. I plan on avoiding the wine and staying in a corner with some lonely-type person in the group, in conversation. This is my "avoidance tactic", and I pray it works today!
