First Week Down, I Survived

I may have lost or gained a number that equals less than a pound, but my scale is stupid, so until I see a full pound drop (or god forbid a gain), I am not counting it. Today it looks as if I am at the same I was when I started on Monday then.

I'm fine with not gaining or losing any this week, as it was my first week and this is a huge lifestyle change that I am taking in steps. This was just the starter week to see how well I can handle eating healthy with my time restrictions and boyfriend eating other things. It was a learning experience, and I feel more prepared to crack down even harder next week. If I keep going week by week like this, I think it will be beneficial. I have to say for this week, I am proud of myself. :)

...I'm excited for next week though because I've got so many new ideas to be even healthier... and I get to go hunting this weekend and THAT my friends, can be an amazing cardio workout. Woop!

Fruit Snack Attack

Somebody brought full-size Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Starbursts, and fruit snacks to work. I want to know who so I can yell, "SCREW YOU!" lol.

I was actually just eyeing up those fruit snacks. They wouldn't be so bad right? I mean compared to the Reese's and Starbursts...

I glanced at the nutrition information (which I am getting so dang good at) and saw 11g of sugar in a package of about 10 fruit snacks...

FIRST OF ALL, I am thinking about lunch already. I have a healthy lunch planned, and possibly a 15-30 min walking session. SECONDLY, these tiny sugar blops will not fill me up whatsoever, in fact, they will make me crave MORE. Next thing you know, I'd be mowing down Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, two at a time...

What did I do? Grabbed some Starbursts for my boyfriend and walked away.

Go me. :)

It was a blustery day...
yesterday...
It was also my first day of eating healthy. I ate way less carbs and calories than usual, so by the time I got off of work, I felt like a zombie. I stuck with it though and I'm proud of myself.

Broccoli Taste Test #1: Tried raw broccoli with veggie dip last night for dinner. I had to wipe my mind clean of all past experiences with broccoli (dads canned broccoli microwaved or heated up in a pot - gross). Surprisingly, broccoli doesn't taste like it smells when cooked. As a matter-of-fact it hardly has any taste... and that was GREAT. I ate way more than I expected, and was surprised when the roof of my mouth got roughed up from the tops of the florets lol. Oh well, still proud of myself.

I have hope for today. The sun is out, and I have a decent meal plan for lunch. (Tuna - yum!) I just really need to find time/motivation to workout. It looks like it will have to be after work but it's getting so dark so early I am worried about going out for a walk/jog by myself... My other option is to do some sort of quick workout routine on my lunch break (15-30min workout?). Not sure what to do yet......ideas?

I've decided today is the day to start living healthier. I've heard a lot about this website and am hoping it helps me keep on track.

My diet plan was originally going to be Atkins, but I think I'm going to opt out for my own sort of nutritional change. I'm a little confused as to whether I should pay attention to my calories, or pay attention to my carbs... I have decided, however, to pay attention to my carbs and just keep an eye on my calories. My starter plan is something like this:

-Diet soda only for special occasions (I normally drink it everyday)
-Focus on drinking water all day everyday
-Focus on eating more leafy veggies (ick lol)
-Stay away from white flour and rice! (if this means removing the bun, fine!)
-Avoid or eat very little of starchy veggies (potatoes, corn...)
-Avoid sweets!!
-Have healthy snacks handy ALL the time!
-Try to avoid processed foods...
-Try to be more active! (taking 30+min walks, etc)

I hope this is a good start. It doesn't seem too restrictive, but is a fairly good change from how I normally eat without a care.
