TV and my complot theory:

Yesterday Heidij123 made a true statement in the comments about watching tv being a trigger for food.

Multiple researches show that it is not so much the show you are watching that is the trigger but the commercials shown inbetween. Also a lot of shows/movies etc have commercial messages embedded.

There is also another research that shows that we humans are so fixated on food (yes even the skinny humans that have no eating disorder) that we need only a split second to spot food.

Another reseach show that to see other individuals of the same species eat (done with animals as well as humans) a series of chemical processes prepares our own body for food like making saliva, initiating the stomach muscles and lower bloodsuger. So when you are watcing your main charakter eating a burger, you will also get hungry. (remember the pizza-hut/ dmonino's commercial from demolitian man?)

Finally: A research shows there is a number of microseconds your brain needs to process images to the consious brain. So if the time shown is lower then your processing power of your brain, you will not consiously know that the image is shown, but if the subject is later asked for assosiations, research show that your brain did notice the image.

My theory is that big brands (like cocacola) pay a lot of money to have their commercial shown throughout the show and commercial break every minute, but only for a split second so you wouldnt notice if you are watching.

Even if this is not the case, the mere fact that we are watching commercial breaks about food (it is not coinsidence that most commercial breaks are about food) and the food shown throughout your show will make your body prepare for food and thus make you crave!

Conclusion: It is only normal we will get binges during tv-sessions!

so: if you are going to watch tv, be strong, prepared and mindfull!

love maud.
