I fell so far off the wagon, I have road rash. I couldn't even log all the food I ate today. I have been feeling just so darn tired the past few days on Induction. I think, for my body, 20 net carbs is just not enough, and I really NEED fruit and grains in my life. I have been pretty consistant with my carbs remaining low, and the calories are way below what I should be eating.

I think in order to keep myself sane, I'm going to try something new. I will stay within my RDI in calories, try to keep my daily carbs below 50, stay away from "white" foods (refined sugars and bleached flours). I think a big part of it will be 6 or 8 glasses of water a day.

I know about healthy eating and body chemistery (I am a nurse, after all), and I just don't think I can keep up on Atkins.

Starting tomorrow, I'm going my own way.

I spent a lot of years on and off Weight Watchers, and found I always lost more weight when I'd very my points day to day (high one day, low the next, etc). So, why wouldn't the same be true with carbs? I find that any time you do the same thing day after day, your body adjusts and won't burn fat as easily.

Yesterday, I was up 1.5 lbs (I'm a scale-oholic and weigh every day). I was over eggs and meat, cheese was making my gag reflex kick in, and I was just feeling a little yucky. Since Fridays are usually my errand day (at least until I find a job), I was out at lunch and landed at Jason's Deli. I splurged and had a half size taco salad, of which I could only eat half before I was miserably full, at a whopping 40 or so carbs. I was feeling uncomfortably glutonous for about 2 hours afterward, but it was soooooo good. This morning on the scale I was back down 1.5 less than it was two days ago (which meant 3 lbs gone in a day). Go figure, right?

What I figure is this: This lifestyle is crazy restrictive. I cannot live on low carb alone, but if I allow myself that one indulgence a week, I think I can make it. I also think it will help keep my metabolism revved up to burn more fat. Anyone else try this and have it work?

I'm almost all the way through the first week of Induction. I feel like if I eat another egg or see another piece of meat, I'm going to be ill. I miss carbs. I dream about food. That's pretty sad. Last night, I dreamt I robbed a Dunkin Donuts at gunpoint, but only wanted the food.

I feel okay other than that. My appetite is reasonably under control for the first time in years. I'm finding little things I have as a treat, like iced coffee with a shot of sugar free flavored syrup, or sugar free jello. I have some Atkins bars and shakes that say they are suitable for "all phases"--the coconut bar tastes just like a Mounds bar. All in all, I think I'll make it through the next week. I wanted to stay on Induction until I get below 200# (15 to go - I've already lost 6# this week!) but I don't want to deprive myself to the point that I crash and burn into a heaping pile of pastries.

I have noticed that my body temperature seems a little higher than normal. I wonder if it's the fat burning, or perimenopause. That's a pleasant thought, huh?
