I recently began dating again (with the full encouragement of my college aged kids) and surprisingly found someone I really like who is substantially out of my league (and very very fit), but we have a lot of fun together, which has lately took on the form of a lot of outdoor activities (limited hiking, swimming, etc.) and has gone a long way in boosting my self-esteem and motivation for keeping to this plan and getting healthier. This week we'd hiked almost every day, and while it was physically tough on me, and I needed a lot of breaks, I had a lot of encouragement, and I feel like this is a new, fun way for me to make exercise a regular part of my life again.

Unfortunately, the last few weeks were very stressful and I really struggled to eat enough. I normally stress eat but I found myself with no appetite and mostly just had to force myself to make sure to eat enough.

I was traveling a lot this past couple weeks, which is always tough when I'm dieting, I always give into cravings that turn into multi-day binges, but I started strong on this trip, even made sure I did a treadmill workout in the morning (still tough for me on equipment with arms on it but I made it work) and a pool workout at night, and tried very very hard to comply with my diet, but while I kept my workouts up (the only reason I probably didn't gain more, and mostly maintained my weight) my diet began slipping after a few days, and one trip through a drive thru turned into two meals from door dash, to by the end of it, multiple instances of both each day plus big meals with my colleagues and a lot of dessert and drinking.
All things considered, that I mostly maintained is promising, I know how to at least mitigate some noncompliance and overindulgence better than I would have before (one week long trip last year saw the scale jump 18 lbs), so I'm at least proud of myself for that.
First thing I did when I got home was make a trip to the grocery store and plan my meals ofr the next week to get me back on track. I'm hoping to be under 465 by my next weigh in!

So, I am seeking advice.
I obviously have no room to provide commentary or tips on other people's weight, but I noticed that my two college-aged children have both gained substantial weight (I won't speculate how much exactly, but enough that I'm feeling compelled to ask people I trust with something I'm normally very private, but still protective about) during this past year, between their obligations and pandemic stress, etc. I have no trouble relating to why that might drive them to eat. I am mostly just concerned. I was of the mind that I could just leave it alone, and see how things progress when the world is a little more normal again, but this went on longer than I anticipated (as someone who was very compliant with public health guidelines, etc. as were they, so I'm talking full lockdowns, etc. which meant, for them, a lot of delivery food and a lot of inactivity) and I worry they won't be able to turn this around and regain their former (pretty active!) lifestyles as much as they might want to.
How might I best broach this topic? Do I come from a place of concern and experience with this struggle (which they've seen at its worst), or leave my own experience out of it entirely and focus on what they may need as far as support goes? Or, do I just trust them to figure it out and come to me if they need help (I am very open with them that I will never judge first, and only do what to help first, and its served us well throughout their lives)?

I’m pretty proud of myself for this one since I was on vacation with my family and even though I didn’t hit my target per my doctor, I still made a lot of progress and still enjoyed myself!
