I'm trying to adjust my lifestyle so the second half of my life to be as physically fit as the first quarter of my life.

Except for the part where I was in diapers. I really am hoping to avoid that part.

Net calories
If a pound of body weight is 3,500 calories and you want your weekly net weight loss to be between 2 and 3 pounds, you'd look to burn between 7,000 and 10,500 calories more each week than you consume.

(Which reads a lot like "if one train leaves dallas at 4 pm, traveling at 60 mph...."Wink

Is the number exact? No. The calories you take in is pretty close (though between errors in the product data, errors in the FatSecret database of the food, and errors in weighing, it's never 100% accurate), but the calories you burn is an approximation based on gender, age (I think) and weight.

Is the number close? Yes. If you're losing 5 pounds a week, the concern is you're losing muscle mass. I make the assumption you want to lose excess fat instead of muscle, so your current path may be too fast.
