LOL I am so tired of the plateau! I started to post about how long I had been bouncing and not making headway. I had to stop and look at my spreadsheet. What a silly goose. It has only been 2 weeks! I decided that I had hit a plateau a week age so I decided to take advantage of it and relax a bit. So what's with the impatience. LOL

The week was nice, and I didn't go that far off the beam. Just relaxed my choices and didn't push myself quite as hard on the activity. This week I am back being more particular about my food choices and pushing on the exercise and general activity. I expect a week relaxed and then hitting it hard again will get the weight melting off again.

I was reading some different threads last night and ran across one on running. It sounded so good. I have never enjoyed running and told myself it was because I just didn't know how to approach it right. The runners are absolutely in love with running and make it sound like the best thing ever as far as exercise. I had to dampen my entusiasm to try it because the truth is my knees just will not allow it. Instead I am going to use what I learned about it on my elliptical instead. Save the knees!

I am so enjoying the summer fruits and vegies. I live in an area with lots of fruit orchards, famous (in the region anyway) for peaches! Sweet corn better than I have had anywhere! I have fresh apricots and early peaches in my fruit bowl this week. Wonderful little snacks. I used to make jams and can the fruit. Not so much now, too much added sugar.

Time to move.

I am very experienced at "dieting". I have "successfully lost" pounds and inches.... over and over again. One of the most important things that I have learned, no matter what diet plan you use, as long as you burn more calories than is required to maintain your weight, you will lose weight. Another, no matter what you do to take off the weight, if you do not continue to burn the excess calories you will gain weight. And finally, the human body is a very complex machine made up of many inter-related systems. To be healthy, all of those systems need nourishment, and each system has different requirements to fully function, thus the need for a variety of foods. This applies to the ability to lose weight, also. Your body is designed to try to maintain a healthy weight, thus the ability to store and burn fat. Unfortunately, that is dependent on what we put in our mouths, and how much we move our bodies.

I have learned to focus on nutrition. As I said, the ability to lose weight is dependent upon that. I have learned quite a bit about nutrition from the many diets I have tried. This time, I am using a piece of nutrition software to help me learn to fine tune the nutrition. Although the basics are protein, fat and carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients are what your body requires to fire on all eight cylinders.

While focussing on nutrition, I am learning what is required to maintain that elusive "ideal body weight". While I have seen it on the scale a few time throughout my life, I have never been able to maintain it. I have had the mindset of either "dieting" or "not dieting". The truth of the matter is that maintaining a healthy weight requires long-term "dieting". Continual awareness of what goes in your mouth with more focus on nutrition than pleasure and a continnually active lifestyle.
