I am a registered nurse who has been out of a job for 2 years due to the down turn in the economy and a very bad back (no disc between L5 lumbar vertebra and my coccyx). I have recently had spinal fusion surgery and hope to be healed within 4 to 6 months. My husband is a Class 4 heart patient, which means living on a low sodium, low fluids diet for the rest of his life (he was within 5% of a heart transplant). So we have had our ups and downs, both medically and finacially, but we are hanging in there.

Since my husband has been very ill, I have been taking care of him for 2+ years, now he is helping me out with my recovery from my surgery.

I am sticking to his low sodium diet, plus I am a Type II diabetic, so I have to watch my blood sugar (which being a chocoholic dosen't help). But recently I have found that chocolate gives me diarrhea (bummer) and I have become lactose intolerant.

My recovery will take 4 to 6 months from the surgery, so I must eat (or drink) a lot of protein and calcuim and vitamin D to help myself heal quicker.

My highest weight was 240 pounds. When I started Fat secret I weighed in at 187.1. Now I am down to 160 pounds. I am hoping to get to 150-155 pounds until I can work out without the brace I have to wear from the surgery.

I have found that a diet high in protein, medium in complex carbs, and low in starchy veggies and bread is best to help lose the weight. But walking is the best exercise bar none. The best walking is done at 3.5 miles per hour, but even if you have to work up to that speed, it makes a difference if you "power" walk rather than leisurely walk.

Walking has helped me out a lot when I am trying to lose weight.

Good luck to all.
