Got to bed late and woke up early four hours later. I tried to take a nap, but I didn't fall asleep. Sleep deprivation is not good on the diet. It's been a struggle all day.

Oops! I went over. I was doing fine until my sweet, darling wife brought me a pack of four yakitori-style chicken wings from the store. I was going to put them in the refrigerator and have them for lunch tomorrow, I really was, but it didn't work out that way and I ended up eating all four.
My wife's great eating problem is that she seldom has an appetite and often complains that she has to force herself to eat. She doesn't understand obesity. We've been preparing meals separately for years, but I swear every time I make an effort to lose weight, she seems to do all she can to break my resolve. Knowing sabotage or loving concern? I'll let you decide.
Anyway, it wasn't a horrible slip - 150 extra calories. There have been many times when I've been able to rationalize going over by 100 calories as license to stuff an extra 1000 calories down my throat. I had those thoughts tonight, but I didn't act on them.
iPad Air arriving tomorrow morning, so I'm going to bed happy.

Yay!! I made it safely through two danger zones. First it's my one day off, and since I'm still recovering from the cold that knocked out last week, I didn't go anywhere or do anything. On these kinds of days I tend to overeat out of boredom. Today, I set a schedule for my meals and snacks and didn't allow myself to graze in between.
Next, I cooked 10 servings of Crockpot Chicken Chili (a wonderful recipe I got here on fatsecret.) Often when I cook a large amount to freeze, I end up eating two or three servings. Tonight, though, I packed up the leftovers immediately after dinner and stuck them in the freezer.
Tomorrow is a national holiday, but I have to work anyway. At least I don't have my morning university class, so that's good.

I made it through the day on schedule, but I was dealing with hunger most of the day.
My Saturdays are weird. I work six days a week and have been for the past 20+ years. But on Saturdays I only work in the morning and am off from the afternoon, which is good because Saturday afternoon brings an uncontrollable compulsion to nap. I try to limit my nap to an hour so I don't mess up my sleep schedule, but today I could not get my eyes to stay open and ended up sleeping over two hours. We'll see if I can get to sleep at a reasonable hour tonight.

It says it's been 198 days since I last weighed in. It's depressing to face how badly I've let things slide.
I decided today is the day I get back on track. Actually, I had decided to start last Tuesday -- I had three days off from work, which sounded like a perfect opportunity to really focus, but then I came down with a wicked cold that kept me in bed for two of my three days off. I'm feeling a lot better now, so I've set off on this journey once again.
I feel like I know perfectly well what I need to do to successfully lose weight. It's really just a matter of doing it no matter what comes up that makes me wanted to throw in the towel. One immediate problem is that I'm currently without a gym. The one I had been going to kept raising their already outrageous fees until I finally got fed up and quit. If the weather cooperates, I hope to walk the four kilometers to work three or four times a week, but as it gets colder, I'm going to have to find a better solution.
Anyway, one successful day down and a lifetime to go. Wish me luck!
