First week of cutting out processed food, snacking, and making walking part of my routine. I assume most of the weight is water weight too... So I'll see how progress goes in the next few weeks. Encouraging start though, if only because I have so much more energy! :)

Met up with an old friend yesterday at a pub and successfully just had green tea (although the landlady didn't seem too happy about it...)
She suggested having food there but everything on the menu was carb heavy and I actually said I'd rather eat somewhere with healthier choices rather than just going along with her idea. Normally I wouldn't speak up about those things.
In the end we went to an Argentinian restaurant. She suggested it, said it was meat focused, and I jumped at the idea because I've never been to one!
I still had a pretty heavy meal: steak with cheese and red onion, vegetables, and a roasted sweet potato. I didn't even feel like french fries, and when the sweet potato came I only ate half of it, without any of the sour cream that came with it. So surprising for a carb addict. In fact I'm surprising myself every day with how enjoyable eating fresh and whole foods is.
I'm a little worried because I have a though day tomorrow (boyfriend's birthday party and the guys always get take out). Unsure as to whether I should allow myself a little pizza, or be the grump that eats some vegetables out of the fridge... Pizza is my favourite food too, so I'm a little conflicted. I can avoid all the snacks easily but the mealtime is when we all sit, share something we ordered in, and have a laugh watching a bad film together. The social aspect of watching what you eat is always the hardest!
Here's to keeping this up and good luck to anyone else who faces making food choices that disagree with those of people around them!

Posting this as a reminder that green tea on an empty stomach makes me feel awfully nauseous.
I don't know if it's the tannins or the caffeine (two common causes apparently), but I remember now why I developped a habit of explaining that I don't drink any hot beverages to people! Same thing with alcohol. It's no wonder I got addicted to loading up on carbs, because really sweet/sugary snacks give me bad headaches as well (so I never ate sweets as a child, whoo!). Is this what people call sugar sensitivity? Maybe I should mention it to my doctor...

Trying to walk at least 10,000 steps a day is already making a huge difference. I have more energy and find it easier to work, but I'm also getting out and exploring new areas of my neighborhood (moved here from another country about a year ago and have neglected to get out much). I'm finding that sticking to this challenge is helping me stay more motivated in other areas of my life too!
I found cacao nibs and dried goji berries at a local supermarket yesterday. I was surprised because I thought they were a specialist health product, but I bought some and had 8g of each in a little yoghurt this morning and it was delicious.
Does anyone else eat these? Are they really as good for you as the hype says?
