Happy New Year! I have set a goal of getting back to the active self I was before I went back to school a year and a half ago to further my educational degree work. Having accomplished that goal, I now need to focus on myself and my health and fitness once more. Although I am unable to start back physically with the vigor and intensity I want to due to a diagnosis of misalignment of C2 and C5 vertebrate in my neck Monday, I know with 2-3 weeks of chiropractic care, I should be back to my old self. Despite this obstacle, I still plan to find ways to be more active. Today, my husband and I have planned to walk at least a 5-K distance at the track.

I'm back, yet again. I added a few pounds over the last several weeks while on vacation and then having company of my own. I have joined a challenge that starts today that will help me get back down to where I want to be...at least 6 pounds lighter.
I always do so much better in regards to being accountable to myself about my food choices when I record what I eat. The challenges also motivate me because I am responsible to a team to pull "my weight" to help the team.
My one big obstacle is that school starts back up this week. I will have to make time for myself to insure that I am making healthy food choices, making time to do a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise a day, and recording my food intake.

Today is the last official work day for me this school year. I got some exciting news yesterday...I was chosen Teacher of the Year for my school. I was very surprised and honored to be chosen by my coworkers to represent our school.
I have spent the past two days trying to clean and reorganize my classroom. I hope to have it all finished by today. I am looking so forward to being able to spend hours outside every day. I am such an outdoors person. This time of the year is so hard for me when the weather is beautiful, and I have to spend the majority of the day inside. I plan to get out this afternoon and jog and I encourage all of you to do so as well...Today is National Running Day!

I went for my first trail run with two of my friends today. I made it about 12.7-K. Not the 15K I was hoping for, but I discovered that for the 15-K I am doing next week, I must carry water with me. The temperatures reached the 90s for the first time this summer. Running through the woods made it feel a great deal cooler, but the humidity was extremely high. I did more walking than I wanted to, but I found that I pushed myself too much at the beginning. I know to back off a bit at the beginning, and alternate more walking with the running earlier on so that I can make it for the full 15K. This was a wonderful learning opportunity, and I am glad I had the chance to experience this before next Sunday. Now I rest up and take it easy with my workouts during the next week to build back up my strength and endurance.
