Hi all,
Man what a week, spin classes, yoga classes, bike fixing, bike riding, intro of fast day calories (woo) topped off with a 10km Jog last night, Phew!
With all this activity I'm finding it impossible to stay within my 2600 RDI on a training day, ive been well into the 3000 most days. I'm hitting the RDI and still feeling hungry and low on energy, this then goes away with the help of a few extra calories. I'm not bugged to much by this as I'm being mindful of physical and mentral stresses and listening to my body which is good practice, plus I'm rarely going over maintenance so all is well I suppose.

The weight loss is still in steady decline, after Thursday's fast I was under the 78mark at around 77.6k, returning to 78 after eating, this puts me within 3kg of my race weight goal! still with 3 weeks in hand.

This evening maybe a challenge, as I am meeting up with some old work colleges for a 'Drink', this was not a problem as I stick to the 'Awkward Blackberry'. I have since been informed there is now a curry involved, has anyone in the history of curry houses not gone abit far on papadoms, dips, naans, rice the sides go on!Logging it will be a nightmare. Still I'm out with the club riding tomorrow and it's with the fast boys who like hills, so how better to power this than CURRY POWER, ha.

Have a good weekend Folks

Another good week of following my diet and training, the weight loss has begun to slow down a bit now. It kinda bobbles up and down from day to day, but still getting a decent loss over the week. I'm still positive I can get to 75 in 3 weeks time in preparation for the first Time Trial.

It is getting harder and more mentally testing to keep up the bigger calorie deficits, especially now I've upped my training (200miles totalled sat-mon)so I have been mindful of this and now practice a more 5-2 fasting regime rather than the intermittent water fasts I have been doing. So now I have a 300-400 cal breakfast on my two fast days (Tue + Thurs). This has made the fasting considerably more maintainable, I knew I had to adjust when I woke up on Tuesday morning and the idea of a complete fast made me want to cry!

One of the most important skills when on a regime or diet is to know when to adjust to your body and mind as you travel down any weight loss journey, ultimately its about being healthier and happier not drilling yourself into a hole of discomfort and misery just to hit numbers and targets you set months ago!

Woah, Hit some serious calorie totals over the last 3 days, both burn and eaten. Before i started logging on Fatsecret i would not have believed, that over the course of a 100mile ride day i consume 600+ grams of carbs! and 5000+ calories! That was avoiding the usual cyclist bacon sarnie and endless cake.

Despite the pre ride meal on Friday night and all the eating over the weekend, at no point did I gain over the 80kg, infact i lost 0.3kg over the course of Saturday.

All the sugary energy stuff and just the shear volume of food you must consume to get the calories in, is hitting the digestive system which has been used to 36hour fasts and reduced carbs for the last 4 weeks, needless to say its in a state, its all gone in but none of it has come out!

Monday morning, I'm feeling pretty good, legs aren't dead and after feeling quite stressed physically and mentally last night I've woke up happy which is nice for a Monday morning eh!

Well, yesterday was the first time in 21days I exceeded my calories out. I over ate only by about 350 cals but considering it was a 4300 out day its alot of eating. The problem was a mixture of things that ultimately left me less able to control eating. I had a tough ride with the club at a pace I've not held for over 2 months, add in the headwind and hills on the home leg compounded with the affect's of a fast day the day before and you have a bonka on the cards.
I didn't truly bonk out, just got dropped out the back of the pack and felt like I simply did not have the power to hold the pace. I could still make it home, I had energy just at a very low output. What I can only imagine happened was my glycogen levels fell too low and meant I was relying on fat energy which will keep me going but useless at high intensity.
The after effects of this were delayed, I got home happy id had a challenge and humbled by the help of my clubmates hauling me mentally up the last few climbs. The hunger was delayed and set in with avengence as I sat around resting on the evening. The dark mood began to creep in again and I awoke this morning feeling pretty down and introverted.
The fog has cleared some what now and I can attribute the symptoms to the obvious chain of events. As a result I will change the fast periods leading up to the weekend. Also positively I did not give in to bad foods and the overeat of healthier foods is not such a bad thing, weighed in at 80.8kg so no harm done other than a slight mental woble I must be mindful off going forward.
