Want to shift ±10kg body fat. Using a Flexible Diet approach.

I lost 25kgs on Atkins (LCHF / Keto / Banting etc). That was around 2005. Haven't regained all, but trending bigger. Especially after lockdown. I've gone from a 32 waist to a 34. Want to reverse that.
After years of on and off LCHF I can't take that way of eating anymore. I did a medical and discovered I had raised cholesterol. Doc said it was probably the LCHF. Made me mad as the Low carb community said that it wouldn't. Over the last year I've become extremely disappointed with the LCHF Community's embrace of conspiracy theories, COVID and climate change denialism, embrace of Trump etc. The LCHF approach / insulin obesity theory is in itself actually science denialism (denying conventional science, magical thinking) and I bought into it, big time. Blaming "Big Food / Pharma" for all our ills. However I thought that if they were so wrong about all these other things maybe they were wrong about Low Carb too?
I heard Dr. Layne Norton on a podcast. Layne is vilified by many in the LCHF community as he challenges them on the science vociferously. I initially resisted, as my LCHF Gurus (Noakes et al) have all had run ins with him. The guy made sense. He advocates for flexible eating / calorie restriction ("calorie fucking deficit" as James Smith so eloquently calls it) with the tracking of protein intake. Also "diet breaks" (eating at maintenance). He argues that LCHF is not magic, nothing more than creating a calorie deficit by removing a single food group. And I know that to be true. When I wasn't losing weight on Keto I knew I was eating too much and I would have to cut calories. Doh!
My plan is to follow Layne's approach. Flexible Dieting. Track calories and protein. Lower fat choices to get the cholesterol on track. Quit booze for a while (it's my gateway drug to bingeing). Time frame is 90 days until I diet break but if I plateau during I will take a diet break earlier.

Dr. Layne Norton
Hi. First two days on Fat Secret. I have chosen to follow the principals espoused by Dr. Layne Norton. I'll be posting in my journal every day that I remember to do it. Layne promotes a calorie reduced approach with hitting your daily protein target and sharing the rest of your daily calories between fats and carbs as you prefer. And frequent "diet breaks". As a former LCHF / Atkins / Banting / Keto adherent I am amazed at how much you can eat and how great it feels eating carbs.
