I'm in my mid-sixties with 3 boys still at school age (14, 11 & 7). Being an older dad does not always keep you young, as people often say, they have the usual growing demands.
I work from home near Battle in East Sussex as a technical writer in the construction and building services industry, so a rather sedentary work style but following a heart attack in March 2014 I've taken the dog for a lot more walks - and try and go out as much as I can at weekends.
As part of my recent annual check-up it was suggested I should lose some weight and exercise more - I've heard this many times over the years - but now you'll understand I'm more focused.
At the doctor's, mid April 2015, I weighed in at 100kg so when joining Fatsecret I had come down to around 93kg - so it's been working. But it is sometimes bumping along even increasing and without going down for many days. Such days can demoralise but I know it is a matter of determination, perseverance, and not wavering, and whatever you do - DON'T GO FOR THE CHOCOLATE BAR OR CAKE.
I go by the calorie recommendations to lose weight at around a lb/week (food intake down 3500cals per week which I'm told equates to about a lb). Also I do around an hour walking each day which is about 3 miles - although some days I've walked 7, 8 or even 9 miles when on outings with the boys.
I use my windows mobile to monitor distance walked and the MSN Health & Fitness App which is now sadly being phased out. But here I am with Fatsecret and it appears to replace MSN very well.
Got to go now - the dog needs a walk!
