YAY! I'm doin the Happy Dance! I love getting on the scale & seeing good weight loss. According to my calculations on http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ , my current BMI=45.17 & my BMR=1783.05. My BMI needs to get down to 40 so I can have my hip replaced. At least, I think that's the # the Dr gaid. Then according to http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/, my daily maintenance calorie intake=2139.66 (by multiplying my BMR by 1.2). ~ BUT, I want to lose weight, so I lower my caloric intake by 500 to 1000, which=between 1139.66 & 1639.66. I've been trying to stay under 1200 calories per day, & am barely losing weight. But at least I am losing. These calculations don't consider my very hypoactive thyroid, which makes a huge difference in my metabolic rate. But, at least it lets me know that my 1200 calories falls within their limits, so I'm not abusing my body. That's what I needed to know, since my body has trouble enough without making more. ~ WOW, now I'm starting to sound like King Keld & Dairy King, LOL! I'll be seeing my surgeon's PA Mike on Tuesday, & hopefully he will be happy with my progress. Have a happy & blessed Sunday, Dear Friends! HUGZ, GLAMMER

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been on here for awhile. #1, my old computer has been behaving very badly lately, & I don't know when my daughter will FINALLY get around to going through the last of their moving boxes & find the RAM for it, which is "hiding" in one of them. #2, I had a colonoscopy FEB, & saw, as the Dr warned me beforehand, that because I've been taking cascara sagrada capsules for years to prevent constipation, the lining of my intestines is stained a yucky-looking blackish color. I freaked out when I saw it in the readout he gave me, & stopped taking cascara "cold turkey". NOT a good idea! Since then I've had pretty serious constipation, but it got worse about 3 weeks ago. About 2 weeks ago I had a Dr visit & told her about the problem. She is an Osteopath, & does manipulations that do wonders for my Osteo Arthritis. This time she did some special manipulations that focused on my constipation, but they had little or no effect. About a week & a half ago we were heading into the city, & I was feeling pretty miserable. Even leaning forward a bit as we often do to type on the computer, or even to eat (we use tray tables)made me very nauseous. So I called my Dr's office & said we'd be in town & was there any way I could talk to someone about this while there. They arranged for me to meet with an RN who was very nice, & she told me to buy a bottle of citrate of magnesia & a Fleet's enema. Won't go into details beyond that, but let's just say the effect was (again) minimal. This really surprised & concerned me, as this combo should have fixed me right up. The nurse told me that I might have an upper intestinal blockage, which made me even more worried when that combo had so little effect. BUT, she also said that if those 2 things didn't work well, that a patient of hers whose Mom is a retired RN told her of a mixture that her Mom swears by. This RN has shared this mixture with several other patients who had good results with it. It sounds & tastes horrible, but this mixture fixed me right up. It is: 1/3 cup coffee, 1/3 cup prune juice & 1/3 cup Milk of Magnesia. I took a teeny taste & sure enough, it was horrible! So I just held my breath & gulped it down, then chased it with a few sips of Coke to remove the taste. Now, I don't want to get in trouble if someone tries this & has any problems, so use it at your own risk, but I'm just saying it worked wonders for my problem. Sorry to bend your ears talking about something so "icky", but if my story can ever help someone else who has similar problems to find relief, it's worth any ickyness & embarrassment involved. BTW, I've gained 2 lbs since my last weigh-in, but I'm chalking it up to this problem, & will just keep doing my best til my next weigh-in, which will hopefully be better. Hugs & Blessings to You All, <3 GLAMMER <3

RATZ! It's amazing how fast & easy you can gain weight compared to how slow & hard it is to lose it! I managed to lose 1.5 lbs in spite of the Labor Day weekend. This was probably mostly bc we didn't BBQ as I'd hoped but had supper with our DD's on Sunday after church instead. We even at out on Monday, including dessert @ DQ, so I don't know how I still managed to lose weight. This last week I've been having serious constipation, so that may be at least part of the reason I gained 2 lbs. Constipation isn't a fun topic, but some of the meds I take cause it, & after a recent colonoscopy I stopped taking cascara sagrada, a very gentle & effective herbal laxative I had taken regularly for years. Since quitting the cascara, even though I'm taking both Colace & Senakot-S by prescription, I've had to resort every couple of weeks to also taking Max strength Ex-Lax & Miralax. I'm getting minimal relief, but am still not "going" properly at all. I'm feeling icky-sicky a lot, & having poor appetite (despite the weight gain), & sometimes feeling very nauseous. I have an abdominal hernia that has had to be repaired several times due to the collagen defect I have, & I sure don't want that to break open again. I told my Primary Dr about this at my 9-27 visit, & she did some special manipulation therapy to correct it, but it had minimal results at best. I was naughty & didn't do it today, but tomorrow I'm going to call the Dr who did the colonoscopy & see if they can advise me on this. I've also emailed my PC Dr telling her that the manipulations didn't help much, so will see what she says. Meanwhile, I'm just not feeling very chatty or sociable right now, & hope everyone will forgive & bear with me. Hugs, Glammer

YAY! I'm goin down, in a good way of course. At risk of being "gross", I'm having a real battle with constipation. It's even more a concern because I have a major abdominal hernia that I don't want to come open again, for like the 5th or 6th time. Both the hernia & its problem with healing are due to my genetic collagen defect (aka, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) that makes the tissue weak. I'm on Senakot-S once a day & Colace twice a day, plus drinking Miralax a couple of times a week, AND Max strength Ex-Lax when I'm desperate, still with minimal results. Dr did another Manipulation Therapy on me, which helped but I'm still having problems. Will email her today about this.
Another YAY! We're going to church in the city today with our oldest & youngest DD's, then afterward to their new apt for BBQ chicken ~ YUMMERS! I promise I'll behave myself, it's just good to have fun with them, especially since we have our youngest home again for good. She got a job almost right away, as a caregiver for a young man who has Cerebral Palsy. Then we found out he & his family attend the same church our DD's do, the one we're attending today. So neat! So Hubs & I & our oldest DD have seen this young man & his family many tim before, & now our DD is helping to care for him. Such a blessing. Her hours are such that she can continue working on her college degree in Health Info Tech, which she greatly wants. OK, gotta run & prepare for church. Have an amazingly blessed Sunday dear FS friends! (((HUGGZ)))

Hi, Fellow FS-ers! Sorry I haven't been posting or responding often on here, but I'm having ongoing computer issues, & can't see all of my screen at same time, & it's hanging up & taking FOREVER to post sometimes, etc. It's mostly because my computer is out of date & won't even accept some of the updates it needs. I'm supposed to get a new, whiz-bang computer from my DD & SIL, but they just moved, & he's been very sick with a bad bug for over a week, so I haven't bothered them about it. I'll get it when I get it.
Meanwhile, I'm pretty jazzed that I'm losing weight pretty steadily. I'm also doing well with exercising & using my recumbent exercycle regularly, on alternate days. I'm up to 1/2 hour on the cycle, & the exercises are mostly for upper body strength & flexibility, except for chair marching & leg squeezes & abductions using my rubber bands. They say I still need to lose 50 more lbs. It will take awhile. I'm having frequent muscle cramps, mostly in my feet & toes, so am not sleeping well. I'm usually only getting like 4-5 hrs sleep at night, then about 2 hrs nap during the days. I feel tired & sluggish all of the time, & the hot weather isn't helping either. At least now I know that I CAN DO THIS, & I WILL DO IT, NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES. Keep up the fight, my friends, & always know that you're not alone. We're all in this together, & the support & togetherness of this group is phenominal, & I so appreciate it. Have a fantastic & blessed day everyone, & an awesome weekend, in case I don't get back on here before then.
