30 November 2010

Today I did okay. No work out, but I did a lot of walking and drank a lot of water. And I ate 5 small meals that were well balanced.
I watched an infomercial the other day about eating the foods you love and still losing weight. I looked it up online and its "secret" is to balance the meals with a protien, a fast carb and a slow carb. And keep the portions under control. Meaning "normal," or what should be normal.
So that's going to be my plan. Since I can't do some weird 500 calories or cut out carbs and only eat protein for a month. That just doesn't work for me. But portion size and balance sounds like something I can do.
Not to mention cutting out the sugars and "bad carbs" like rice, potatoes - you know, the white stuff.
And I will go get my physical done. I have a feeling my thyroid has a lot to do with my inability to lose weight.

I get so tired of the yo-yo routine.

It goes like this: I get into a routine, weights, running, yoga. I go for a couple of weeks totally into it. I start seeing results. I'm feeling good, doing great. On the path, the wagon, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Then something kicks me off the path, off the wagon, back into the dark end of the tunnel. I get sick, my family has something happen that changes my routine or my own work suddenly has fires to put out.
So here I am again. My wagon was knocked off the path about two weeks ago, just after I finished my 5k run. My hip pain got so bad I just had to take a break. I thought I'd give it a couple of days and it would go away, but here I am two weeks later and it's still bad. I know I need to go to the doctor and start the process of figuring out the problem - I'm just a little afraid (well, more than a little) of what I'm going to find out.
BUT - that shouldn't stop me from eating good and at least lifting weights! Okay, I might have to scale back the running - maybe even take it back to walking, but I shouldn't just give up on everything!

Here I go again!!!

31 October 2010

While I might not be logging in all my food and exercise here, I am on the wagon (kind of).
I've been "training" to do my first organized run, a 5k coming up in one week. I've been running for almost a year, on and off, but now I'm getting serious.
I bought a Nike+ sensor, and love it. I don't have a Droid phone (don't like them, to big and I don't need all the toys) nor can I have an iPhone since AT&T doesn't work out where I live. The Nike+ works great as far as I'm concerned.
How's my eating... I've discovered that I can eat what I want, as long as I'm smart about it. First, be aware of portion sizes and how I feel - don't let myself get stuffed. Second, I make sure I'm eating a protien, a fast carb and a slow carb. Meaning I'm eating more vegetables!
Have I lost weight? The scale is moving slowly. The way I can tell I'm getting skinnier - my clothes! I put on a pair of jeans that I haven't worn all summer (I live in Arizona - I don't wear long pants from about May until October) and they FIT GREAT! No muffin top either!
So getting smaller? YES!! Which means I'm turning all the fat into muscel, which is a good thing. It also means I'll be staying away from the scale on more days than not.
After the 5k, I'll be training for a 10k. I might even train for a half marathon (13.1 miles), I'm just not sure of the time commitment involved. I do have a job, family and other things to do!

Back on the wagon... all the climbing on and off this wagon, you'd think I'd be in pretty good shape!

I have no excuses! Other than I've been working hard at developing my internet radio show, creating automated systems that should cut down on the amount of time I spend on paperwork, and working with another promoter to develop that partnership... in other words - lots of time sitting at the computer!

It hasn't been that hot, yet. I got my PX90 system and have been using it, just not as regularly as I was doing my own workouts. I've been through the whole stack of DVD's. Some work outs I like, others I don't. So I'll keep using the ones I do like and go back to my own works outs that I like better.

I did go out for a run today, since I was up early and it was still so nice out at 6:30am. I bought one of those Nike + Sensors to go into the Nike running shoes my husband bought me a while back. I like the map it part of the program and it seems to work better than the stack of pedometers I've got in the desk drawer. I'll keep you posted. If anyone else is using this, let me know. Maybe we'll start a group (I didn't find one here!)
