Oh...take two magnesium tablets before bed - it works like a charm on leg cramps. relaxes the muscles.

I also agree with HCB. I take a magnesium tab at night before bed. I also make sure to drink alot of water. I'm going to share..I still suffer with severe leg cramps. My Doc did blood work for Potassium and Iodine and other things 2 weeks ago. All tests came back normal. I do know the pain girl!! it is just horrendous. Thanks for bringing this up, and I'll take any suggestions from anyone as well.

@CoulourMeFabulous - sometimes I need more than magnesium. I have magnesium with potassium I take, but sometimes I take calcium as well and that does the trick.

Make sure that you are and stay hydrated it is so hard to consume enough fluids I have been using a rule of thumb one half of your body weight in ounces for the amount of fluid to consume especially important if you are in a warmer climate

An easy fix for the cramps is drinking 2 cups of full-sodium chicken broth each day. One cup in the morning, one in the afternoon. Eat half of an avocado for potassium and take a soluable magnesium capsule (or for a faster fix...the powder that mixes in water is dandy!) The broth, taken for a few days, helps to set things back in balance pretty quickly. Since the lo-carb eating - esp. the induction phase of Atkins- has a diuretic effect, you can lose fluids quickly, and fall out of balance. I've done this, and it works great. HTH. Annie
